I use triplewax car shampoo to wash and then to polish I use White Colour Magic by turtlewax to bring the colour up and then a couple of coats of Mer. Never had a problem with paint thinning etc as the colour magic has a weak t-cut in it. I have never used "full strength" T-cut though. I have heard that damages the paintwork as the paint is thinner on caravans than on cars.

correct never use T CUT as it will remove your caravans paint which is only microns thick, this will leave you with a shiny patch of alloy.for all your cleaning needs see.

I think Demon shine is better than bobby D.Ive used both on the car/van at one time and the DS looks shinier.I bet its just the same as BD except cheaper.

"Muc Off" (Type carefully!) is good.

Recommended by our friendly dealer 9Salop Caravans Cosford). Puts a great shine on and seems to last well.

The lady there told me she uses it on her car too!

The very best way, though hard work is to clayed my van, I do car detailing, and it is a very big job, but if you want a polish any polish to last more that 4 week then the paint must be smooth as lumps and bumps will break down the polish.

My cleaning

Snow foam all the van
Clean van, Fenwicks cleaner
Clay, only the flat areas as grim does not stick to the side (most of the time)
Clean van, wash MIT
1st polish (wet look, as I like it )
2nd auto wax, canumba gold
3rd wax with Colonite mark of elegance ( this must be applied by and orbital polisher, if you put it on by hand you would never get it off)

As for thin paint, claying does not remove paint, compound does that, clay just removes dirt.

You could use automotive cleaner like Wolf But I HAVE NEVER USED IT ON A CARAVAN SO DON'T KNOW IF IT WOULD WORK... TAKE CARE !!!!!!

And as Peter pointed out we were asked the best way not the quickest.

Hope we have a nice summer, just may do a full detail then. Or may be not.

Have a great day

James

This has been asked so many times in the past.
So at my age I should share my experiences.
I have used mer, autoglym, and bobby dazzler, plus a few others that I can't remember.
I still use mer at times. Sometimes when I am running out of autoglym. I don't like mer for the car either.
I like autoglym to wash the van then the polish is very good the one in a spray bottle. On the roof or for the rest of the van at times we always use bobby dazzler. I find this very good. It seems to add a protective film, which makes it easier to clean the next time.
The windows I wash on their own and use spray on furniture polish.

I was going to say take a look at a car detailing website if you are going to get into the nitty gritty area of cleaning but James has covered it.   Never thought of the claybar on the caravan James, thats a big area (aching arms).

It is but don't forget you clay flat part not sides ( most of he time) and if you look after your van you only have to do it once as you will keep removing and redoing the top coat of polish.

I really only do this when it is warm and I just want to be doing some thing

Only one product to use. Colinite.
Wax for the sides and Boat for any GRP or Fibreglass. Shine like you would not believe and it lasts a full year.
GRP
Walls
If these are not the easiest and best products you have ever used I will eat my hat.
Only other product is Acrylic polish for the windows. Anything with petroleum in will eat your windows, and that includes Mer, Autoglym etc.

Your right there.

I once put Colonite by hand , took me a full weekend to get it off.
From now on machine on and hand off, but wow is it a good last coat.

It just might be worth looking at what the van manufacturers recommend. I know Bailey have tested and have approved Care-a-van products. If your van manufacturer recommends a particular product, it may be worthwhile checking what happens to your warranty if you use a product other than what they recommend - especially if a paint related problem rears it head. Just a thought.
