Well done Judy! We are also incredibly excited about our 2003 Hymer Nova 470 but buying the 'van seems to be the easy bit!. We've decided to leave it tucked away in storage 'til Easter. Meanwhile we want to get on and buy a lightweight(easy erect)porch awning where where we can get rid of wet coats and boots and sit if the sun comes out! Someone mentioned to us that we might struggle finding something to fit due to the height of Hymers. I can't pop out and measure our 'van as the current storage place is a good drive away. Is height really an issue for Hymer owners? Can anyone tell me what height of porch I would need for our van? Or does anyone have any recommendations for porches? We can't afford to make a costly mistake!
Thanks
Ann

I have a 2003 hymer sitting on my driveway. I bought an 8ft tall NR porch to start ith and that was a stretch fit withh all the mudwall aging, I then tried an Outdoor revolution and that w similarly challenged, at present I have an Isabella Minor and that is a very tight fit with the mudwall at full extent.. The only way that I can see to get a well itting awning is to buy a 750cm full awning and set it up as a combi awning, 775 is too big.
I also have a 940 cm Isabella ( unusual size ) Capri full awning that fits perfectly.
I have just been out and measured it, the height from the top of the rail to the ground is 251cm

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Yes, it is thanks Mark, in fact the photographs dont do it justice...hopefully everything will work properly when we get it home...just need to sort out a proper awning for it now...we have a porch awning, but looking at previous comments, dont know if it will fit! I'm sure it will be great, though I must say, the Geist LV535 that we had previously will take a lot of beating, that was an amazing caravan, just sadly bigger than we now need.
Nova's of 2003 have the awning rail at nominally 250 CM from the ground.
This is at the upper limit of Isabella's Magnum. On level ground it is not a problem but where the ground slopes significantly along the van's length it leads to the wall on the down hill side showing a lot of mudflap.
On slopes that one normally tolerate as a pitch it is acceptable, certainly not a problem on CC site type pitches.
It is also the limit for the Isabella Minor and having one and using it on my 2003 nova 470 I can not recommend it. Even on levl potch on CC sites there is great difficulty in pegging the awning against the van and the only way of fixing the poles against the van is to put a peg though the hole in the plasic base. If I was starting buying awnings again I wouls scout though Ebay and find an Isabella 750 and thn buy the bits to convert it to a combi awning.

Thanks Bill and JTQU - you've certainly helped in how we think about awning buying. The caravan came with a full Dorema Cardinal awning (I think it's called a Daytona now). As ex campers with too many years of experience in pitching big canvas frame tents we are pretty daunted by the thought of weekending with the Cardinal! So we were thinking of something lightweight and quick to put up, maybe like the Dorema Mistral

or even the fun plus

Both of these claim a max height of 255.
Any thoughts?
Thanks again
