I am thinking of buying a 240 volt 16" LED flat screen television with Freeview digital tuner for the caravan. Will the standard status roof ariel be able to pick up a digital signal at all? If not can you offer any advice please as we have not previously used a television in the caravan before so I'm new to this and any advice will be greatly appreciated.
I have only not received digital signal on one site and that was before the digital switchover - that was througha standard status aerial. You should have no problems presuming you have a directional status aerial.
Hi trev,we use the status on ours and have a booster,We get a great picture where we are but like above i think it would depend where you are.If your going to buy a new telly we got one from argos,it has the freeview and a built in dvd player cost about £160 but the dvd player comes in handy when theres nothing on tv.
we have a status aerial on our van and have had no problem with digital signal on any of the sites we've visited (so far).
just pitch up and point it in the rough direction of everyone elses...sorted.

This is what I wondering actually if I needed a booster or something similar as the status ariel is not of the new pear shape design but the old round type and I wondered if it was capable of actually receiving a digital signal. When the caravan was manufactured in 1999 I believe there was only an analogue signal and this is what I was concerned about. In fact Jeff, the telly I have reserved is in Argos which is under a £100 for a TV / DVD combination and collecting one day this week.
mine is the old round shape Trev though we have a built in booster. You can buy a booster they are cheap. If your worried about the signal in certain places just buy one of these.we used one to..its a vision plus
Our Status picks up more channels than we will ever need in our van. I see so many folk setting up their sattelite dishes, finding the sputnik, "Is that it Love?" "Is the signal clear?" "No No move it more the other way" "left a bit stop right a bit stop up a bit" and all that and then when I walk past they are watching Corrie or East Enders same as the rest of us with just our Status aerial. Why bother?
If those with dishes have the sky box I could maybe understand it but when they seem to watch BBC 1 and 2 ITV and Chuffle 4 ..........You will be fine with your status and a box that has built in Freeview.

Thanks for the information everyone, I will get the telly this week and see how it performs using the standard status ariel. I think I have a booster that I bought a few years back Jeff but never used it so I will have look to see if I can find it. Of course we will have to go to a site with EHU to try it out (reception wise) as the caravan is in secure storage with no electric facilities. At least I know now that I may need a better ariel but apart from that at least I don't have to buy any other electronic gadgets.
Pre the changeover the flying saucer aerial on the top of the van was worse than useless, however since the analogue signal has been turned all of a sudden my Status aerial has become as good as the external directional aerial.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Status has a built in booster if you remember to switch it on. You need to check with the site you are on whther the dish needs to be vertical or horizontal...or just look at what the other vans have done

I don't think the ariel can be altered and remains in the vertical position at all times Phil. If you see the link this will clarify exactly what status ariel I have as it's identical to this, mounted on the roof on the nearside (awning side).

90 quid for that ?
I know Jeff, my thoughts entirely. I only used this link mainly for the picture though so you may be able to get them a bit cheaper if you shopped around.
