I think you have got to be earning an MD's bonus before being able to afford some sites. I feel sorry for people with families it must cost an arm and a leg just for a day out these days.

I am fairly fortunate in that I camp solo and there are still lots of sites charging less than £10 per person but that could still work out expensive for a family.

After 10 years on the same site in Cornwall the £42 a night in August is too much for a nice but basic site.

We have gone 3 miles up the coast to a site we passed many times and always said we would take a look at for the last 2 years and its brilliant and £26 a night for the same period.

On the old site we had lots of familiar faces coming back every year but for the last couple of years they were missing.

Its not just touring sites that have shot up in price, our daughter has just booked a 4 berth self catering log cabin in west Wales for the middle of May, which is in their cheap 'saver' price band, and her Dad always gives her half towards the cost, to make sure she and the grandchildren get a well earned Holiday after working hard all year,

Well, his face was a picture, when he asked her the price, £430 came the answer, followed by 'thats the short break price for 4 nights'!

It doesnt cost us much more than that for a whole seasons (8weeks) pitch fees!
