We have just sold our van to get a bigger one for our accommodate our ever-taller daughters and us two tall-folk We site our van on a coastal site that can get a tad windy. We will need a 1050 plus awning and have considered a wider width.
Our previous awning was an Inaca Sands (steel poles) that stood up to some horrendous gales.
We would love the extra space BUT are the wider awnings more likely to go fly-away or have other problems?
We have been really impressed by the Inaca but love NR awnings, who don't seem to do a 2.75 or 3m width
Also like sound of DWT...we want a quality awning that won't fly away!
Any experiences/opinions of wider width awnings redards stability....robustness...anything else
It rather depends on the way you use your caravan. If you go out frequently for short periods of time e.g. weelends, it could take valuable time to but up a bigger unit. Also, pitches on some sites are smaller than others - it could range from a tight squeeze on some, to impossible on others. CC site pitches generally tend to be quite large IMHO so with a 3 metre you wpould be OK here, for most part. If you do go for a larger than 2.5m awning, it would always be worth ringing the site to check about the awning size before going.
That's not helped with specific awnings, but there are a few things there to consider, IMHO.
Best wishes

The basic principle is the same as a sail on a boat, the larger the area of sail the more power behind it when hit by the wind, the larger sizes are bound to be more of a problem stability wise than a smaller one of the same make and quality would be, no matter how you pegged it down!

Thanks Julia, suspected as much :( Our friends have a 350 wide awning and it never budges but 250 wide ones blew away last year. Our Inaca didn't shift. I might try a 270 wide one :)
I'm glad you asked that question as I've been wondering the same thing. We're in the market for a new awning too, and with six people and two dogs and accompanying stuff, were wondering if the extra width would be the way to go. I guess the alternative for more space is an annexe for a normal width awning.
Hi, we bought a dorema royal 350 and found the extra room brilliant, it took a bit of getting used to when putting it up, and we found the kids need to help. But once up its worth the effort. We only use it on week long trips, or longer. As was mentioned, for weekends, a cheap porch awning is more suitable. You do have to be carefull when booking pitches, to make sure you have the room required.
