First of all I apologise if this is a stupid question
After years of tenting - we have now bought our first van, been away a few times in it and love it (although cannot completely break the tie with the tents).
My question is regarding the jockey wheel which has come off its rim - I've been searching internet and now more confused than ever - do I just buy the wheel and if so is it easy to put on or do I buy the complete set (i.e. wheel & shaft etc)
If you buy a wheel of same type & diameter it should be ok. To remove it, remove split pin & knock out shaft. Take wheel to caravan shop to match up rather than buy one mail order. Slide new wheel in, tap shaft back in & fit new split pin.
If you look on Ebay, you may well find you can get a complete jockey wheel cheaper than just a new tyre. I bought a complete jockey wheel assembly when I wanted to fit a pneumatic tyre as it was cheaper than getting a pneumatic tyre and wheel. Unfortunately, the handle was not cranked like the AlKo and it collided with the hand brake when the brake was applied, but I was able to wind the bottom half out of the two jockey wheels and swap them over.
It appears he still has them, but the price has gone up a bit since I bought mine.
You have not said if the tyre is inflatable or a solid rubber.
See if the jockey wheel is in 2 halves i.e. bolted together. If it is you should be able to open it up and replace the tyre. However it is a good opportunity to replace a solid tyre with an inflatable which I think is best.
Tyre/tube are usually 'sack barrow' size and available at garden centres or online.

We replaced out jockey wheel from solid to pneumatic tyre. The whole jockey wheel assembly had to be replaced, because the stirrup of the existing one would not accept the larger diameter and width of the pneumatic tyre. I also found it necessary to replace one side of the axle with an 'R' clip to make the wheel removable for travelling. This was because the larger wheel was low enough in its "up" position to hit things like speed bumps, and (a warning on another forum by someone going through the same procedure), in the "up" position there was a risk of the pneumatic tyre fouling the brake rod of the hitch. A check on ours showed this to be true. So be thorough if you do follow this change.
bought a new jockey wheel with the pneumatic tyre and had to remove it because it was getting stuck under the A frame after hitching up.it was touching the ground and i could not pull the wheel to one side in order to lift the jockey wheel up.it is now on my trailer.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
We have pneumatic tyre but are considering swapping for the solid rubber tyre as we have to keep pumping up the current tyre every few weeks and always at the most inconvenient time!
The one we have now is a solid tyre and I'm looking to replace it with a like for like - Thanks for the replies, will nip to the storage place at the weekend and get the OH to take it off. Nice excuse to go mooching round caravan/camping shops
Thanks Tentz for your instruction, been down to the storage place today and removed the wheel no problem. Off to Stuart Longton and Riversway Leisure tomorrow - retail therapy
