We get car breakdown cover through our bank account. I called this morning asking about the caravan, they told me I would need to take out cover through the caravan club for the caravan.
i know that the natwest/rbs advantage gold account only takes you 10 miles from point of recovery...i.e. its roadside assistance, not recovery (with green flag)
it will cover trailer/caravan as long as you are legal (weights), and the trailer/caravan is not more than 21ft (6.42m)
Most, but not all breakdown cover will recover a broken down car with a trailer or caravan attached. What most won't do is recover a broken down or accident damaged caravan if the car is ok.

Any ideas on best policy?
For full cover I suggest the Caravan Club "Mayday" or the Camping and Caravanning Club "Arrival". ADAC is also worth looking at.
With regard to Tentz' comment above, does anyone know for sure which companies WILL cover broken down/damaged caravan/trailer tent even if the car is OK? I gather both CC & CCC will, but are there any others? You could save me a lot of phoning around!!
Just to be extra awkward, we would like personal (not vehicle specific cover) which would cover elderly vehicles as well as trike and bike!
We use the CC MayDay and have had really excellent service from them. Our policy includes double journey cover, where if you breakdown on the way to a pre-booked site, they will take you to the site, and if the car can't be fixed in time, will then transport you car, caravan and passengers home at the end of you holiday.
I joined the AA two weeks ago in Motherwell town centre.
They were doing a special offer and for £7 a month the caravan and the car are both covered for roadside assistance and relay which will get the car and the caravan to wherever you are going regardless as to wether its the car or the caravan that is to blame.
As we are going to Gt Yarmouth this year we felt it important to get some cover for the caravan as I didnt fancy the idea of leaving it on the A1.
Royal Bank breakdown cover - free for gold a/c holders (well £13 per month but that includes holiday ins, mob phone ins, cheap theatre tickets and breakdown cover (Green Flag)
You can extend the cover for Europe and it covers the trailer/caravan as well) Extending it is not very dear and certainly loads and loads cheaper than CC Mayday - but to be fair their cover is better.
