Been to view a 1999 Elddis Typhoon GTX in Romford this morning item number; 110828630865 on Ebay.
Behind curtain just above cushion back, wall was so bubbled that when husband put the damp meter there it caused the water to actually seep out of the wallpaper and trickle down the wall.
Owner played ignorant.
Makes me quiet proud of my oldie/crappie that is dry.

And yet the 'van is described as 'spotless throughout'! I wonder how honest the seller will be when answering my question "Are there any known issues with damp on this 'van?"
------------- Looking for Danish caravan site ideas for 2014
Luke - doubt you will get a reply while it is still active as it finishes very soon, they may reply to you afterwards thinking you're interested.
Caz - glad you aggree with me, we could have a map showing all the damp caravans to avoid like the virtual brochure for your campsites, sure members would update it after viewing one as we did today, just don't want anyone to be fobbed off with a nightmare.
It's not such a concern when you have a van already and not in such a hurry to find another but if you're looking for your first ever caravan and getting despondant you could fall fail.

An awful lot of those 90s Elddis caravans suffer quite badly with damp.
It's usually the front end though, above the front windows. Or in the shower room (for the 2 berths with rear toilet).
I seem to remember seeing quite a few on my hunt for a cheap caravan.
The areas you mention (if I'm reading correctly, just under the side windows, behind the sofa cushions) can be easily missed. Even my Lunar has a couple of soft spots there which I missed when buying. Didn't bother me too much though, as I got mine for a song, but it's always worth a good look around all the windows (guess mine was a proper rookie mistake )
Tbf they did invite prospective buyers to come & have a look. Sellers as well as buyers can know nothing about the technical side of caravans & not every caravanner reads this forum. Full marks to the op for pointing it out as it would have saved a wasted trip, but if any ukcs regular manages to buy an obviously damp caravan then they have not been paying attention.
Tentz - exactly why we viewed before bidding armed with damp meter, not far but caught in very bad traffic, it's certainly opened our eyes up to what is a bad damp problem and we won't be getting rid of our crappie in a hurry until a good one comes along.
To be honest not sure the woman did know about the damp as it was sat on her MIL's drive, she said she had inheritated the van.
Our gulfstream is booked in for a service mid March, I will stop looking after that unless it's really local.
