Hi All, This may be of interest to the mobility caravaners among us, especially if you have had to use two different bodies of insurers, to recover car then caravan.
Just found out that the RAC do a road side recovery that is an up grade to the RSA Mobility insurance, RAC introduced the upgrade a few months ago, upgrade cost £40 per year and is not transferable to any other mobility car, the RSA will recover the caravan only if the car can’t be repaired to carry on its journey, But if the failure was the caravan you would be left to get your van recovered at your own expense, With the attached £40 up grade the caravan is also covered for recovery, The upgrade policy only applies anywhere in the UK. RAC are the RSA’s recovery company and you only need to give the Mobility car registration number, for both the car and caravan.

Hi tango55, You contact the RAC, as I was told they are the recovery firm that deal with the Royal Sun Alliance, the up grade is attached to your RSA mobility insurance, though it is a separate cover, but because the RAC do the mobility recovery, it is linked to your mobility car registration, you will have an ID number issued to you for the RAC part of the policy, but will only need to quote the mobility car reg, I think it is a good idea as no need to find an other roadside recovery firm for your caravan, and the hassle of waiting for the van to be recovered, possibly if the car has already been recovered.
The policy covers roadside recovery if the caravan is the source of the break down, and not the mobility car, as stated in my post, The mobility recovery will cover the caravan for recovery, only if it is the car that is at fault.
PS. Almost certain, The upgrade policy also includes home recovery to a place of repair.

Hi tango55, you are welcome, will make things easier for mobility leased car drivers, also new “ mobility centre have said that you no longer require to tell the insurance company that you have tow bar fitted”, I must check this out.
Hi David, with hind sight I should have made topic a little clearer, with Mobility leased cars you have to use the Mobility insurance brokers and they are Royal Sun Alliance, and their brake down and recovery firm are the RAC, under the RSA policy the caravan is only recovered if the car brakes down and can’t be repaired at the road side, the up grade is for the caravan brake down, so having the up grade attached to your mobility car registration, makes it unnecessary to find another recovery firm for the van, and will eliminate the chance of you having to possibly wait by the roadside with your van until your van recovery firm arrive,( while car has been recovered), Mayday recovery and the likes, would be pointless as they would not be allowed to recover a Mobility leased car.
Hi Surfer01, I don’t understand why you have to cover the car twice, If you have a mobility leased car, all you have to pay is £40 per year for the van and for each of the years you have the mobility car, if you wish to renew the upgrade each year. Using any other recovery service other than the Mobility's designated agent, you could find that your warranty and insurance would be void, and you could incur the full cost of any damage done to the Mobility leased car, and possibly be bared from using the mobility scheme in the future. (This is assuming that you have a Mobility leased car.)
Hi Chrissie, “
Mobility users have to ask (RAC )customer services to change 0800 0927119 also got our discount for belonging to the CC&club you need your membership number ready for that.” This is news to me as everything indicated to me only this Saturday, was that you have to use the dedicated recovery firm used by mobility and the RSA, and it is the RAC that are under contract for all mobility recovery, though your van or trailer can be with any recovery firm, if you are saying that you can change your mobility car recovery firm too other than the RAC, then I may have been mislead I what I have been told, I will need to check it out.!!!!.

We have had to use the RAC before in Inverness and we had no problems what so ever the RAC man made sure all was well and I had a motorised new scooter inthe back of the Vannette cargo can we had. He made sure the garage put the whole thing inside under lock & ket and not outside storing.Never had any problems with either AA or RAC in the past.

Hi beanpark, I phoned the RAC, the Royal Sun Alliance and the Mobility to-day, and all said that the Mobility leased car has to use there package as they are all in partnership for the insurance and recovery of a Mobility car, Mobility said there was nothing to stop the Mobility car driver from taking out recovery with a company other than the RAC Mobility recovery, for any towed caravan or trailer, they did state that if another recovery company was used to recover the Mobility car and your caravan on their policy and not the mobility policy, they could have very serious problems if the mobility car was damaged, and you would have to make a claim through the recovery company insurance and not through your Mobility insurance policy, and if the recovery company’s insurance refused to pay out for any reason, the Mobility driver would be in the very real position of no car, and would have to pay the full costs of the Mobility car, which would mean that you would be unable to take another Mobility car until the full cost of car repaid from your Mobility allowance. This I found a very compelling reason for taking out the up grade with the Mobility schemes designated recovery firm the RAC. Seems to me a bit silly to cover a Mobility car with another recovery company, and pay the fee for car and caravan, when the Mobility insurers RSA already cover it, and the only money you need to spend is £40 for an upgrade for the caravan, and the big plus is you will not have any hassle with two different insurance company’s if things go wrong. The Mobility can authorise the use of other recovery company’s in extreme instances, where their company can’t get to your assistance within their specified time.(EG: road blocked, flood, land slides, snow.)
Mobility car bought on Hire purchase with your Mobility allowance is totally different, you can insure and use any recovery firm you wish, The down side is that you are Not Covered for any of the Mobility benefits associated with the mobility Leased car.
Hi Rob and Tina, you are very welcome, and it sure will make life a lot easier, and a lot less hassle. I think this new up grade service will be a big hit with a great number of Mobility leased car driver's that have caravans, and about time too.
