Hi Im new to this forum, though not the site!
Ive just went to spring clean my van and was shocked to find it covered in 'damp' inside. Well it was mainly the cupboards, outside especially, and some inside. It was like a green 'flock'. Does this mean the van is damp now (though I cant find any dampness on the structure?

Probably means it wasn't ventilated enough. Caravans normally have permanent vents in floor & toilet compartment so you need to leave toilet & cupboard doors open over winter so air can circulate through & make sure none of the vents are blocked by anything stood in front of them. Don't be tempted to leave any dehumidifing device inside as this just stores the moisture inside caravan

Was it just on the wooden doors?

If it was its the same as we had once. We wiped off the green stuff ,used a good wood polish on them and all was ok the following winter .

Yea it was mainly on wooden doors, few spots on cushion covers. Just relieved that its not damp Never saw this before! Bit of elbow grease and some good polish and it should be right as reign. Cant wait to get going again.

When we went to pick up our van last  weekend , we noticed that the windows had some condensation on them. There is no damp as we used a damp meter. We will go back up to storage this weekend and open the bathroom door and cupboards as I know we only left the fridge door open.

sounds like mildew to me so all should be well with a good clean with mould and mildew remover ,gives you a wee scare though ,ventilation all the way and we definately wont be putting salt in ours next year it made mildew worse .

it is only mildew!! Hot air hitting cold patchches in the van and lack of ventilation!! It will soon wipe off dont worry about it!! Just air the van before you leave it!

I had damp in a van - it was only 6 months old -- and it had been in to the dealer for some remedial work to be done and they automaticaly do a damp check for the paper work when they hand the van back. -- The Managers face was ashen -- he couldnt beleive the figures that he was reading on the form from the fitters..

We both went out with the metre and checked -- OMG they were correct 70% -45% - 54% etc

It sudenly dawned on me that this van -only six months od was virtualy worthless -- whou would buy a damp van.

We talked abut it and he said We will fix it !! I replied not WE but YOU will fix it.

Any way he contacted the manufacturer -I contacted the CC legal dept - they drafted me a letter - A week later I went back -was just about to hand him the letter when he offered me a NEW van -- result!

The manufactures took the van back and I got a brand new the year on from mine - van

Still got it and love it no problems

Maurice

I live near to Rushden in Northamptonshire !!!
