Try putting a wedge behind the wheels once on the leveling ramps, then apply the hand brake on caravan. Then you should be ok to unhitch. Its just the weight of the van either pushing or pulling on the tow-hitch,depending on if you reversed it onto ramp or pulled it onto ramps.

after reversing you must pull forward slightly otherwise the hitch is in compression and pressing hard against the tow ball.as said if the van is rolling back the other way the same principle applies.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
As it is a compass they tend to use BPW hitches and have found the only time I have had a problem with unhitching is when fully compressed hitch. Hand brake on pull forward about 2 inches release - job done

well understood the theory ! thought i would have a little play around as the van is on the drive.
Drove on to leveler put car handbrake on got out put van handbrake on then chock behind wheel, got back in car took handbrake off to let it "roll" a little forward dont know if this happened, anyway tried to unhitch but same problem rock solid ! now is it because i was on a level driveway and by putting it into an unlevel posistion it was not releasing ? anyhow help so far has been great as always
Cheers
