Hi

Am new to this and caravanning. I have recently brought a Bessacarr Cameo 500 GLE. Its 4 berth with end kitchen. Great van and solid for its age. The only problem I have is the bunk for the small seating area is missing. I am having trouble locating one as this model seems hard to come by for bits. Is there anyone that could point me in the right direction ?? I'm sure I could use another bunk from a different make van but just wanted to keep it all original if I could. Am open to suggestions

Thanks for taking the time to read

Regards
Paul

Have you tried googling for the caravan breakers in your are and giving them a call?

Not all bunks are universal fit, and there are four main types,1. Canter-leavered with a type of metal foot at each end, that fold down and store along the wall at the back of the bottom bunk, 2. Shelf and baton, which mostly fold lengthways along the centre, and attach to batons held on by wall-plates when in use, and store as a concealed shelf under the roof lockers above, held in place normally by a couple of small turn-buttons when not in use, or 3. the Hamock or stretcher type of bunk which are mostly found on older caravans pre.1990s. and of course 4.the fixed bunk type which is the most recent addition to the bunk family in more modern caravans.

The underlocker shelf type can be very well concealed indeed, and you wouldnt be the first person to believe it was missing when in fact it was just cleaverley hidden, We have this type of bunk and even our own daughter didnt realise it was there until we took it out and showed her during the second season of owning our caravan, so it might be worth having a second check for this type of bunk before you go spending your hard earned cash on a replacement. Some can just look like a wooden trim strip running the full length under your overbed lockers.

Thanks for all your replies.

Julia thanks for advice, done the google and breakers for hours !!! no luck. Bunk not under lockers. I know where it should be and what it looks like but its just not there ! Just hoping someone on here may know someone who is breaking one.

Ian, am more than happy with it, for the money we payed its brilliant. all solid and a great size and layout and still looks modern even for its age.

Thanks Again

Paul

Hi dave, thanks for the message. Am still looking for one. So if if you have got one that would be great. The one I'm after fits on the two seat area and appears to just lift up. It has a hole in it for the table to attach when its down. If it sounds similar am very interested

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul, I realise this was a long time ago but did you solve your bunk problem? I have just bought a Bessacarr Cameo that is 3 berth and I want to retrofit the folding bunk to make it 4 berth. I have found a few online, but they have different bolting connections to the wall. I don't know how to choose without making a hole in the wall to look at the support plates (which I don't want to do!). I'd be interested to here how you got on, cheers

Hi Deaco

We had the 550GL for many years. The bunk type is the first one described by romany girl above. When it is in place, it will be obvious where the screws go, as there is very little available movement.

One thing to note is that when the bunk is folded down, the cushions will be squashed up, as larger ones were used if no bunk was fitted at the factory
