How do you fix yours? I was dead set to buy a jockey wheel one, but the man in the shop said they can be unsteady and recommended one that goes up the side of the van, attached with stick-on clips. That sounds even less steady to me.
What do people do?
No, I'm not interested in a status flying saucer one - too much money.
I've got a jockey wheel one, and at full extension, it does move in the wind; however I do get a perfect picture! If it gets really bad I have some old tent guy ropes I carry that I attach from the top of the mast to pegs in the ground. One rope to brace against the direction of the wind is usually sufficient. But if its blowing a gale, then I've set up three lines in a triangulated fashion. It meant we could ride out the gale nice and cosy inside watching telly!
Up until I got a folding camper which covers the A-frame and therefore I cannot use a Jockey Wheel fixing point, the one on that clips into the hitch and digs into the ground was very good and stable.
Since then I have gone for this type which is pop-riveted to the side of the FC.
At £8.99 they are by far the best I have come across and you can see them HERE.
i can totally agree with michael & stuart, i have used the same stick on pads in 30 to 40 mile a hour winds with a satellite dish on top & apart from losing signal the pads held up to the job. if you look at my profile pics there is a picture of stick on pads with sattelite dish...
found this on ebay might fit onto side of your van...

Our van has got an awning rail and a skirt rail on both sides of it. Is there any way I could use them?
using one of the clips i have shown you this will fit into the slot of the top awning rail and screwed closed.the skirt rail opening points down so not able to use this.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
does anyone use a tripod?, I've just got an easy find satellite system so you need to see the flashing led that's on the lnb so it can't be too high. its a great bit of kit, you can align the dish in seconds.

yes i use a tripod for the sky dish,i also have a cloths line pole holder that gets knocked into the ground.very solid in use.

If we are using the satellite we use a tripod and if were using an areal we tie it to the jockey wheel but also use one of these for extra stability the mast fits in this a treat we use it to make the holes for the windbreak first then for the areal.

On one of my vans i used jubilee clips over the jockey wheel and slid the pole of the aerial in, then tightened, nothing would move it..
I use a tripod. Made it myself from an old rotory cloths airer, turned it upside down and shortened the arms to act as legs, put anchoring loops on so it can be pegged down. I use it for my salelite dish or my aerial .
I use the status aerial on the van, directional type so usually ok. Better now digital has arrived.
If using the satellite I have a cheap tripod (speaker strand) from Maplins whicg the dish clamps onto. Ithen attach the tripod to the ground with a couple of bungees and pegs.
