Hi . I was looking under the plastic screw cover trim of the awning rail , on my Elddis Elf . Wondering how good the seal was . The screws were stainless counter sunk type ,but the rail was not contersunk , this would normally be bad practice . Does anyone know if this is usual , or have the screws been replaced at some time ? Many Thanks

I think the screws have been replaced as all the vans i have had the screws have been counter sunk.It no big deal to sink them just use a slightly bigger drill on the awning rail and drill enough off for the heads of the screws to fit in..

sound like there has been a new awning rail fitted and the screws were the old one,
id do like jeff said and remove the screws and drill the rail slightly bigger and sink the screws in

Use a proper countersink tool; NOT a standard twist drill.  It will bite and pull straight through the rail, giving you worse problems than countersunk screws in flat holes.  Stainless steel panhead screws are another alternative, reqiring no countersinking.

I'd second that, use a proper countersink tool, you'll wonder how you managed without it. Before you buy one make sure it's narrow enough to fit into the awning rail moulding.

You shouldn't use stainless screws through aluminium as apparently is causes the aluminium to oxidise. These must have been changed by someone who thought they knew better, although clearly didn't know much at all, not even that countersunk screws should have countersunk holes.
