We took our 2006 pageant champagne (6 year ingress warranty) to a dealer to appraise as a part ex deal. He found damp over the shower and said it was the rear panel which was prone to cracking where it meets the roof. We invoked the water ingress warranty to which he replied, "Well, up to four years and you could go back to Bailey, but not this near to the end of the warranty" I was absolutely gobsmacked and will be on to Bailey first thing tomorrow to hear what they say. It makes you wonder about their 10 year warranty doesn't it? I'll post their reply on here so watch this space.

The warranty should last up to midnight on the last day of the 6 years.  I think some dealers just try it on.

Wait until you have actually spoken to Bailey. I think your dealer might just be looking for an excuse to offer you less on part-exchange. The warranty should last for the full 6 years so long as the van has been serviced annually by an approved service engineer.

As stated, caravan needs full main agent service history to keep up water ingress warranty & many main dealers will only deal with caravans they have actually sold anyway. If the dealer mentioned by the op had nothing to do with caravan previously it would explain his lack of interest. Provided conditions have been met the warranty will still be current but 'van might have to be returned to original selling dealer.

if it was mine i would contact bailey,if all conditions have been met ie. serviced each year by a dealer or authorized caravan engineer by bailey then the contract is still in force until the 6 years has elapsed.the dealer is wrong in what he says about the warranty.

We had our Bailey dealer serviced( I wasn't going to bother as it was nearly 6 years old) and lo and behold damp was found at the rear nearside top corner. A warranty claim was submitted by the dealer to Bailey and a new rear panel was fitted. When we got the van back all valeted and pristine I wanted to keep it but had agreed with another dealer to part ex it for another Bailey. Inside and out had been well looked after and serviced from new. Once we had traded it in for our new van it wasn't in the other dealers more than ten days and it had been snapped up.Someone out there must be cockahoop with our old van!

As others have mentioned providing the service schedule and gaps between services have been completed this will be covered up to the 6th year from date of 1st registration. I would contact Bailey and ask for a refferal to another dealer who will do warranty work in your area as clearly this one isn't interested or is trying it on. Just out of interest is the crack up the curve of the rear panel, on the side where it joins the side panels? If so this is a common issue on Baileys around 2007-2008 as we had this on a previous ranger and on our current Provence (new panel fitted under warranty before we agreed to purchase it). I believe its something to do with the way Bailey fixed the panels to frame and overtime has led to stress fractures where the fixings are. This can be done either by replacing the whole panel (which I would push for as this is a known problem and they will be aware) or can be repaired by a competant engineer normally by drilling the crack and then filling, etc. The inside wall will also need removing and any effected wood / paneling replacing. Providing it is done correctly this shouldn't be an issue. Please let us know how you get on?

Yes they will need it's full service history but it doesn't have to have been serviced by a main agent.
Ours has had a back and front replaced and it had been serviced by a caravan council approved mobile engineer and this was satisfactory.

Most people are under the impression that they have to have a service done by the main agent and this usually means they take it back to where they bought it thus travelling miles from home.
I have a letter from Bailey stating anyone who is caravan council approved can do it, thry can't carry out the warranty work thats where it does have to be returned.

To the O.P I hope you get a satifactory resolve they should repair it under the warranty up to the date it runs out. T

To anyone else who buys a second hand Bailey of this age ...........ask if it has had the panels replaced because you could just be outside the warranty period and find this happens.

Would recommend you get you own damp meter to test, run a test just before you take them in for the part ex, and advise them that you've done so.
