That's strange, why would they be so open and talk to you if their intension was to steal it,they could have just looked and gone without you knowing as you said they shouted over to you!

Have only in the last few weeks put the new cris electronic tag and dots etc in the caravan. Very good kit and well worth the money i thought. Have the identity tag in the window saying it is tagged so hopefully that would put anyone off stealing it. The man as very polite and i would hope he was just checking if we wanted to get rid of it but it has put us on guard now just incase. Its blocked in with my partners van at night so that puts my mind at rest

Problems are you cannot tell a thief froma genuinly interested person who was looking for something similar to what van you have.

They come in all coloured collars whether white, blue or no collar at all. Transit van, bent & dented van and new up to date range, you have to be so alert to all.

Not sure who the member was but recently they got their van back to storage in a very short time when one of them saw someone looking at it with too much intent. It was only a short time ago on here, when it was mentioned.

Be careful and alert just in case. Your really on your own unless you can tell you neighblours what has happened so if they are staying home for the easter hols they will be alert to your home also.

my first thought is that you could say you are not planning on selling, but may do later in the year, and ask them for a phone number to contact them on should you decide to sell. You can then call the number while they are stood there to see if its genunine

If they refuse to give you a number, or the number doesnt check out, then you report them

The problem here, isnt that they knocked on the door, but that you dont know if they are legit or not. Asking for a number would go some way to identifying he true nature of their enquiry

Also the two who knocked and enquired would not be the two who did the stealing, they maybe just casing the joint for the other part of the team. In todays life I trust no-one that comes to my door asking suspicious questions.

We regularly get people stopping and asking if we have a/ any scrap for sale b/ will we sell the old wreck (my Mini 1000 (blooming cheek!). People apparently try to buy "older" items that have value, on offchance owners don't know the value...so could be that

In saying that, we got a darn good alarm on house and stopped storing our van at house after being broken into when vanning at weekends.

I know having vans out of storage and on the drive to work on is convenient and maybe totally necessary for some but I would never dream of bringing the van home. You might as well put a big banner up saying 'hey I'm going away soon help yourself' that's if it doesn't get nicked first. These days there are dodgy characters driving up and down all our streets more than most of us appreciate. If you don't have to bring it home don't cus it's a massive risk.

had a guy at the door a couple of years ago,he said i like your caravan would you sell it for the right price? he handed me a card of a caravan dealer near blackpool.i said no but thanks for asking. still makes you wonder if there is another reason behind it and you watch the van a lot more than usual.

Not all nosey people are doing so with bad intentions, OH had someone pull up in a 4x4 outside our house and started chatting to him as we were cleaning our caravan. Eventually he asked if he could look inside, and as the door was already open, and the caravan was empty of belongings ready to go to the dealers for a service, OH agreed. It turned out that this man had been a member of the CC for over 20yrs, and had recently sold his own caravan after his wife had passed away, and was missing it dearly. He was quite an enthusiast, but we were the only people in the area who owned a caravan similar to his last one, and it just brought back such fond memories for him being able to relive his dream for just a few mins once more.

Since that day, we have got to know him a little better, and he often pips and waves if were outside as he passes by, or indeed as yesterday, he stood chatting as OH was washing the caravan down, so I made a brew and took a tray out to them, and the pair sat in the caravan putting the world to rights lol, as he was trying to persuade OH to start continental touring, something we have never done before.

As for leaving the house unattended whilst were away, we actually never do, our daughter and her partner always move in for the week to house-sit the dogs and keep the place in order, and as from July we will have family moving back in for a couple of years whilst they save up for the deposit on a home of their own, so even if the caravan is missing off the drive, the house will still be occupied.

They were either looking at the van with an idea to nicking it or they will be waiting for you to go away.

You did the right thing phoning the Police. Did you get their car reg. number?

If that was their intention would they not have kept their faces well out of sight and not invited you to be able to identify them?

They would be well away by the time you got the Police involved, and with at least 27 witnesses to say they werent there.
