Went to check the van over, as its been in storage over the winter, in anticipation of our trip to devon over Easter. To my horror I have found cracking on one side of the van at the front. What has caused this and what can I do to fix this. Here's a picture i took.
No, not been pushing as the van is a twin axle, 26ft long, so too awkward. Only the usual reversing etc. It was fine last year which is the worrying part!
It looks like just cracking of the paint on the aluminium side, it might just be deterioration of paint or some stress might have caused it, freeze/thaw perhaps if the area behind is damp so check that.
Thanks for that tentz. Definitely no damp as I tested that while I was there. Just not really sure what to do to fix this as it looks a little unsightly!
I had mine fixed under warranty by the dealer (Robinsons of Worksop) and it looks as good as new, find yourself a good body repair shop and all should be well for your trip
If its the side of the 'van it will be aluminium not glass fibre. I suppose you could rub down with fine wet/dry & use spray can primer & topcoat if you can get a match.
Is it possible for u to post a bigger picture or pictures of the damage as that one is small..dont know about anybody else but my eyes are trying to work that picture out,is that the offside ??
If it is painted alluminium then a polish over with a car scratch filler may work.
If it is the gel surface of fibreglass then it needs looking at professionally because the inner layers of fibreglass are porous and can suck in water by a process called 'osmosis'. Then if it freezes it can cause a lot of damage.
