It wasn't our car he was offering the full service for but another.  It is a set price.

I wasn't sure what a 2.8 td delica is.  i wrongly assumed it was a diesel.

i am absolutely amazed that anybody can get away with charging £140 for a set of spark plugs.

The world has gone mad.

A very greedy one, without much pride in their work left. But not all, some have still got some good ones, but few & far between nowadays. Fleece the motorists as much as possible methinks.

Brian, you're right the 2,8 delica is a diesel, but the V6 3.0 is a petrol and thats the kiddie with the mega expensive spark plugs it's got a lpg conversion on it so the plugs are quite special, but it also takes approx 2 hrs to change them as so much has to come off to access them  So the cost isn't just for the spark plugs its the labour charge of getting to them

I only ever used Kwikfit once some years ago...or more accurately...didn't use them.

My exhaust was blowing and on inspection I saw that a straight section in the centre had a small hole in it. The rest of the exhaust was fine.

I took it to Kwikfit and shortly afterwards the mechanic came into the waiting room to tell me the rear box needed changing as well. When I asked why he told me it was rusty and wouldn't last much longer. I asked him to show me and went with him to the inspection bay where I found the rear box was clean silver with just a very light smear of surface rust on one area which would have just rubbed off had I been inclined.

I retrieved the car and took it down the road to National Tyres where they replaced the correct piece of exhaust for quite a bit less than Kwikfit's original quote. I wouldn't trust my car in the hands of any Kwikfit fitter as a result of this.

There's a reason for that, KwikFit exhausts only used to fit another KwikFit exhaust likewise a new Kwikfit exhaust would not fit an original system so they used to replace the whole system whether it needed it or not.......

Sadly I found long, long ago Kwikfit are hype and no substance.

First was an Astra van 4into1 exhaust manifold change that took 3hrs to change, and only then after I ended up doing it to get us out the place!
Cost two men stood around = 6hrs lost labour

Second was a back tyre I needed desperately, this was while stuck in Walthamstow and to be fair this fitter was top dollar. However the brand new tyre fitted was absolute rubbish and I tore the tread of it in 200 miles!
Long story, but what followed was lack of knowledge and down right dangerous practice, never mind the total cost to me.
Two tyres from them + 3rd from elsewhere, cost of having the car tracked which it did not need and several more hours labour lost.

Cheap?! darn right expensive I'd say, I would not give them a pram wheel to fix! and now use a local independent tyre place here in Nottingham.

Square Deal Tyres in Wollaton if your local, loads of room to take a caravan and always knocks national companies into a cocked hat on price, including the likes of E-Tyres!!

(Usual disclaimer, I have no connection with Ben, except from the excellent prices/service he always gives me. And the fact I'll be going very shortly to spend another £300 with him, so hope he reads this!!)

There was once a time when KwikFit would replace an exhaust on a common car for less than most garages could buy an exhaust for. Many years ago, a friend had a Ford Escort which needed an exhaust. Kwik Fit were prepared to supply and fit a new exhaust for less than the garage I worked at could get the exhaust for and so we recommended him to take it into Kwik Fit.

He went in for a £40 exhaust and came out with a bill for new brake disks, pads, shoes and rear wheel cylinders. Which incidentally was grossly over the top. Convinced this was not needed, he asked for the old parts to be returned which after a lot of arguing and threats to call the police they eventually agreed to.

The case went to court and they eventually gave a full refund as the supposedly defective brake parts were deemed perfectly good by an independent engineer.

I bought a couple of new Continental tyres for my car from a newly refurbished Kwikfit yesterday and got a GENUINE 30% discount. The tyres for my car are extremely expensive being 245/45/18's and having trawled the internet found that at a tad under £400.00 for the two, it was a very good deal as far as branded tyres were concerned.

Yes I could have bought budget tyres but in the past I've found that they are a false economy and don't last five minutes.

I'm interested to know the significance of having my tyres inflated with nitrogen rather than good old compressed air.

Can anyone shed any light please?

Cheers!

Vic

Pressure shouldn't change with nitrogen as the tyre temperature changes.

However, the tyre pressures should be checked when cold and so the manufacturers take into account the pressure increase when the tyre gets warm.

In my opinion, it's just a gimmick that has been taken from race cars and pushed onto the general public as an excuse to sell them something that they don't need, much like wings and spoilers.
