After reading horror carbon monoxide poisoning & burning caravan stories I bought a Kidde combination smoke & CO alarm today.
At the front of booklet in big bold letters "It is NOT designed for use in a caravan or boat" Can't take it back as I have cut it out of the packaging.
Why don't they put this information on the outer packaging?????
Just finished reading the booklet. Apparently extreme temperature will effect the sensitivity of the unit, colder than 4.4C or hotter than 37.8C. Along with everything else you find when your away in your caravan - dust, insects, sunlight, humidity. oh & 'electronic noise from light fittings' may cause nuisance alarms.
Stilled aggravated that I spent £20 on the wrong thing
Thought I was being soooo clever. Doh!!
From what you say it would be ok to use in caravan. You are not going to get those extremes of temperature & dust etc as described would be as likely to be found in a house.
We have a heat sensitive smoke alarm, bit a bind when we put the toaster on, keeps going off. Have now moved toaster to the awning. We also have a separate CO2 detector.
I think Superbird you should be ok with what you have bought, what is the difference between a boats wheel house and a caravan, not a lot I think.
The other thing is don't be daft enough to use a BBQ to heat up your caravan/awning or tent.
Have decided to use it anyway & see how it goes. Would rather be slightly annoyed by frequent false alarms (when you know that you have burned the toast!) than burnt, seriously ill or dead
I wouldn't personally use a BBQ to heat awning/tent, but I have been with people who have done this and taken the mickey when I have stayed outside with streaming eyes and a tight chest.
our two goes off each and every day making breakfast, just press the button and it stops.we put a teacloth over when cooking but it still goes off now and then.we also have a house CO alarm.i test each one before we set off to the holiday.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
the one in our van is too sensitive goes off just when cooking the premise must be 'do not leave the van when cooking' I think the problem will be when you leave it on low and go off into the awning, etc
