Hello

any reviews for the Bailey Orion 440, I've googled but nothing much coming up. Theres a ex display one going for 12k with the 10 year alutech guarantee on the body. Any advice would be great as we are thinking about going for it.

many thanks all

Interesting blog I shall return later to have a better look.

Just a point to the OP I think you need to check whether you get the 10 year warranty without paying an extra insurance for the the last 4 years.

We did look at one of these last year before going for a 2nd hand van. Overall I thought they were a nice van but the internal build quality on the one we saw just wasn't as good as other makes and also we felt that the internal living & cooking space was a bit small for us. The OH also didn't like the single front window but did think the bathroom was nice. If weight is a factor then I don't think they are a bad buy but for 12K you have a good choice of nearly new vans as well so maybe have a look around. Providing it has been been serviced as required you can transfer the remaining 10yrs warranty for £35 with Bailey (10yrs if is alutec, 6 yrs if not) and will make a big saving on buying new.

Hi we have a 2012 Orion 440-4 and for the money its brilliant. The side dinette seats four adults but then makes into a full size double. You could buy a matress and leave it as a fixed bed. The dinette table also helps as extra kitchen preperation space.
It tows really well and stable.

The only definite problems i have found are there is no heater outlet in the front lounge. Feet can be slightly cold but the rest of the van heats up nicely.
The rear dinette bed wedge cushion moves in the night. We use a 4 meter buckle strap to hold it place.
Both front and rear bed cushions can be a little uncomfortable after a couple of nights. I think the cushions are just plain foam and not sprung.

Like to haves would be a retactable flap on the side of the kitchen worktop.
Led bulbs in the spot lights as the halogen ones are too bright.
For the near side sofa end plate to be removed so you can hang your legs off the end and sit on the edge when its made up as a bed.
Positve catches on the cupboards.
For the useless waist height rear window to be replaced with a side window.
For the carpets to be machine washable.
To be brighter white color.

But overall very happy.

Can you tell me about the gas bottle storage as one of the photos in the brochure seems to show the gas in a separate locker but it seemed only to hold one cylinder. Is this correct?

hi, thanks for this advice. We have had a look at near new caravans and have moved away from the Orion towards Pegasus 462 or 534. We've gone 360 on everything ! Things like whether to have a fixed bed or not, Im sure lots of you have strong preferences either way. I love the alutech idea and warranty, so that is quite a pull. We've looked on ebay at nearly new, sellers with good feedback and found that caravans at dealers are much more expensive, but perhaps give us the reasurrance if anything goes wrong. So in a word, back to square one, but Bailey seems to be the top pull.

thanks X

We changed our Olympus 546 for a Pegasus 534 at the end of last year. Absolutely love it and would highly recommend.

Also sold on the Alutech design

Only complaint is that it doesn't get used enough!!

My wife and i have been out the last couple of weeks, looking for a replacement for our 20 year old van, we visited an holiday park with caravan sales attached and viewed 2 bailey orions, both these vans were the same model.... i think they where the 430 versions.

After viewing the 2, we noted the older (last years model), seemed to have slightly lost its whiter colour, slightly yellowish, but quite noticable, now after a quick chat with the salesman, he suggested that both are tha same colour, when clearly they were not.

So with this knowledge we decided maybe they're not for us, and thats after owning a bailey majenta of 20 years, there was no other reason to find fault with these vans.

Anyway although the orions fell just about within our budgets, we decided to go for a coachman amara 380.

Hi we have just added a second gas bottle so now have a 6kg and 3.9kg. You have to remove the 3.9kg to get the other out. There is enough room left for wheel chocks, foot pads, aquaroll handle, wheel brace, hitch cover ect.
Since owning the orion we have looked at the olympus which is hardly any bigger inside and the peg which is about 40% more money. Its unfair to compare this to much more expensive vans. However none of the others are such good value or have the flexible rear dinette/double bed of the Orion 440-4.
All bailey caravans are off white which is a shame. Remember also that it has dent resistant grp side walls.
