Well after selling our lovely fixed bed GT60 and buying a Ranger 500/5 twin dinette (really wanted a gt60 500/5 but couldnt find one) we've had a very successful week away. The two seating areas work so much better for us than the fixed bed (with two teenage kids). I thought I'd hate making up the beds but it only takes a few mins. The only thing I missed was the microwave. We have bought a low wattage one to use in the awning but we only used it once in a week so OH struggling to see how I miss the built in one (think he has a point). I'd also like a shelf in one of the cupboards I use for food storage to increase the storage space (any ideas on what we could use?)
So the plan is to keep this van til our 13yr old daughter is old enough not to come with us (luckily she loves the caravan at the minute) then we're going to change to a end bathroom and 2x single bed van, like the Pegasus Rimini. However for now the Ranger is the perfect family van and I'm already looking forward to our next trip in a couple of weeks time. A large porch awning works very well for us too and I was impressed with the amount of storage space inside the Ranger.
So to sum up I'm a very happy caravanner with nothing on the to buy list than two monsoon poles for the Kampa Rally which makes a change from our camping days when I was constantly buying kit!!
PS. Maybe a couple of duvalays are on the want list too

That's great news, glad you're found what ticks the boxes, sometimes unless we are rich we have to make a slight compromise, and making up the beds isn't bad, as you say takes a few minutes, before you know it you don't give it a second thought, as for the microwave well you just buy one like you did.
Glad it's just what you hoped :)

We've got the same layout in our Compass venture 495. We really loved it last week and like you really appreciated the extra living space of the twin dinette. We traded in our FC which had permanent beds. Few minutes of set up are small price to pay we think.
I'm glad you're happy with your caravan & I'm glad that you agree that making up the beds is worth the extra few minutes - I do ours while hubby takes the dog for her last night time "puddles" and in the morning while one of us takes her out for morning puddles the other one strips the beds. The twin dinnette works well for us too.
Great to hear your van also went well. I think we may also be looking at a Kampa Rally 390, what do you think of yours? Did you go for the "pro" version? We are thinking of going for the normal one as its lighter and a lot cheaper!
In terms of the Duvalays I would go for them but just make sure you have somewhere to store them in the daytime as they are a tiny bit bulky......but I suppose you could tuck them in the awning to save wasting space in the van? Making up the bed takes seconds and they are very comfortable to sleep in. We got ours on a deal and got the storage bags and winter duvets also included. To be honest the summer duvet is fine as with the heating on I don't think we will use the winter ones as I find them to thick!
dazzer, we have the standard 260 Rally. Its so easy to put up and take down (not a cross word was exchanged between us ). I guess it depends how much space you need do decide if you need the 390. I have seen a 390 in the flesh in a showroom and you really can feel the difference in the material but after using our Rally for the last week I'm perfectly happy with the standard version.

I was sat last night thinking I'm sure you could get stuff like that but was thinking of the Bettaware catalogue, we dont get it through the door anymore and I prefer Lakeland. Like the look of the £7.99 ones, will have to get the tape measure out and see which ones will fits.

The only thing i would say about those, is the fact that they will move about in transit? I suppose you could pu them in the cupboard when on site though. They do look a good solution, don't they.
Your thread has made my mind up about buying a small microwave,I have a built in one in my kitchen so was going to buy a small cheap one for the van, after what you said i am not going to bother,
Them shelves from Lakeland look like a good idea, maybe if you sit them on a thick blob of blue tack they won't move in transit.
Im so glad you've found the right layout for you at last, sometimes what you think you want doesn't actually work out in practice. We have a twin dinette too (although ours is a side version) and it works for us, even when it's just me and OH the van doesn't feel too big. Making the beds takes a couple of minutes once you're used to it. In fact, as we have two long front benches, me and OH often use them as singles, which is even quicker! Also means that when I get up first (I'm am early riser!) I can quickly and quietly put my bedding away and have a sofa to sit on with my morning coffee and my book.

If we take our twin dinette away without our daughter, we simply make up the double at 'her' end and leave it for the duration. Hey presto - Fixed Bed caravan, perfect for couples.
It is such a versatile layout i really cannot understand why it seemingly fell out of favour. There are remarkably few about at the moment.
