We only use bottled water for drinking and cooking because the aquaroll water tastes horrible. Surely for me just garden hose would be ok?
Yep, should be fine

When we were newbies we used a garden hose borrowed from home and we got a lecture off the warden on a CC site not "lecture" as such but a "did you know" Made us feel amateur and a bit silly when we looked round and we were the only ones with the cheapo garden hose LOL .As it's not that much more expensive we seen the error of our ways and bought a proper hose.

Each to their own. This was just our experience

We drink the water straight out of the aquaroll, never had any problems been doing it for years, well I have anyway.

We're just in the middle of buying the bits to do a DIY kit too - thanks for the thread, it's very helpful to see what other people have done (and the recommendations for the length of food grade hose need too).

Best part is that it's a lot cheaper than the overpriced Aquaroll version, so can spend what I saved on something else nice for the caravan!

Like Dave + Marie I we made our own for a fraction of the price and it works a treat. Got a spare cap from go outdoors for £6 so I have option of mains or not. One little tip is to mark the aquaroll and cap so that when you tighten the side entry valve in the float Is positioned correctly or the water will not shut off.

Heres what I put in another thread on the same topic (hope the clickys still work when copied!):

Aquaroll make a kit for this, but it's a bit more money than making the kit up yourself out of the various parts. ...Aquaroll link clicky...

**********

A non-genuine version which basically does the same job. ...Aftermarket version clicky...

***********

Or you could buy the parts and make it yourself.

...Side Entry Ball Valve clicky...  1 required

...Food grade hose per metre clicky...  Usually about 7-10 metres is enough.

...Aquaroll cap clicky...  Optional, only needed if you don't always use mains hookup and need a regular side cap as well as a modified one.

...Tap to Hose connectors clicky...  2 required, one for attaching to the Ball Valve/cap assembly and one for attaching to the tap.

...Hose connectors...  2 required, one for each end of the hose.

To be honest, making the kit up out of parts yourself might save a few pounds but it's a lot easier to buy a ready-made kit, but I wouldn't waste your money on the official Aquaroll one when an aftermarket one works just the same.

Could be me being thick. So please be kind in your responses.

I have 3 20 gallon water containers that came with my £300 20 year old caravan. Why do I have to spend £50 on an Aquaroll plus all the other kit. Can't I fit the float valve in one of these?

I understand that due to pressure and bac-flow issues there has to be a reservoir. But why do I need to buy an Aquaroll.

The reason the 40 Ltr aquaroll is used is because it has two screw caps, one on the side can be utilised for the float valve and the one on the top for the pump entry. Yes you could use yours if you can fit one.

Thank you, madasaman. Most helpful.

I expect some modern caravans have a tank built in so none of this applies.

You could certainly fit the valve into the side of whatever water container you happen to use (as long as you can make a watertight seal)... the only reason an Aquaroll was used in the example was because it's a container everyone can visualise in their heads because most people will either own one or be familiar with what they look like.

But you could definately use the same instructions to make a mains adapter water reservoir out of your own water container, in whatever size or shape that might be 17
