At the risk of sounding like I'm touting for a sale, our caravan genuinely would suit you :-) It's lightweight at 950kg unladen (I'd just been reading your post in Towing), absolutely bone dry (our mobile service engineer came out and did us an up to date damp report yesterday to show to buyers and every reading was below 15), and everything works. Theres loads of photos on here and on Ebay (search for lunar 524). Whereabouts in the North West are you?
Oh, meant to add, don't trust a dealer or anyone else (not even me ;-) Even apparently reputable dealers will sell damp caravans whilst swearing that they won't. Take your own damp meter and check and check and check. Read the guides and info on buying a new can on here, on the camping and caravanning club website and anywhere else you can find them, they'll all have nuggets of useful information you can squirrel away :-)

Brilliant advice. Remember a lot of people have no morals when it comes to selling things, and are likely to sell a problem rather than sort it.
Also do a cris check on any van to make sure it's not stolen etc and also try and haggle in all the bits and bobs you'll need like aqua roll, waste hog etc to save a bit of cash there as well.
Good luck in your search

Excellent advice.
The main problem with caravans is that they are put together with poor quality sealant that becomes soft and runny when exposed to the sort of temperatures associated with hot sunshine. This is the main reason that so many caravans are damp/rotten - the warmed up sealant slides away from the area it should be sealing. Even if you find a dry one it could develop leaks at any time, so a good damp meter that is used regularly is your best friend.
If it leaks, dry it out and seal it up quickly and you won't have a problem.
The industry attitude seems to be - use cheap soft non-setting sealant as it's easy to get it off when the 'van comes back for repairs - rather than - use good stuff like Sikaflex (properly) and the 'van will stay sealed for life.
as others have said get it checked by an engineer. I have just bought a 1999 ABI Sprinter which is bone dry and has no issues. It needed 2 new tyres, a service and I have been away in it this weekend and the only problem is an issue with the kithcen tap, which worked fine until I started using it and probs an easy repair.
I looked and looked at private sale vans (IMO dealers are a waste of time at this money you will just find expensive rubish and lie after lie off dealers saying the vans are dry when they are not). One I found a van that I though was ok I got an engineer to carry out a damp report which cost me £45 a time. The first van I had tested was damp, and you would never have known- no smells or visible signs but yes it was damp. Then I found another van, git it checked and it was bone dry. I paid £1500 for a really nice van with awning and water containers etc.
It is just a numbers game, keep looking and you will find what you want, just make sure you get it checked out properly.
