Topic: Unusually Damp Winter?

Houston we have problem,

We have a 97 Fleetwood which to date "5yrs" has never caused us a single damp issue. For the first time we stored our van over winter on a site in North Devon near a river. The storage is near the river, we did leave the van pretty full tbh with towels, clothes, wet suits, awnings etc.. For the first time ever we had to crank up the heating pull back the cushions and open the windows to dry it out. How did all this moisture get in? Is this the first signs of something more serious? And has anyone else experienced a damper than usual start to the season? I am aware that on balance we have had a very mild and dry winter which confuses me even more, and even though it's near a river it cant possibly flood to the height of the compound. We have de cluttered now and left airflow all around and when we left it was dry. We have wiped any bits of mould on the sides away with mr muscle but tbh there was no and is no smell of damp, just lots of moisture everywhere. Any thoughts welcome, just hope it's not a leak.

The damp was probably caused by leaving too much stuff inside, so the air couldn't circulate. There are air vents all around caravans, letting both damp and dry air in every day, but this will go in and out without causing problems unless everywhere is stuffed full of items that will take up moisture - like towels for eg.

hi. i live in devon and it is a damp place . even if i dont go out in the car for two or three weeks it feels damp inside i've also lived in lancashire and found this does'nt happen. even tho its wetter up north..strange but true...

The only damp you need to worry about is damp that leaks in thru failed seals on the outside of caravan that rots the structure. That needs to be fixed. If you just leave loads of towels etc, in over winter then the inside might become a bit musty but its not a fault with the caravan.

Next winter take everything out, leave seat cushions standing on their edges if you can & ensure permanent ventilation on caravan is not obstructed. Theres no need to leave dehumidifying devices inside, these just store moisture inside 'van which is the last thing you want.
