I don't suppose anyone has a solution for fixing a really bad wet dog smell.
Only just bought the van and have bought all the seats home and sprayed them with rug doctor mixed with a pet odour destroyer then sucked them dry with a carpet cleaner, now my entire house stinks of wet dog!!
I then locked them in the spare bathroom with a scented candle burning and still the smell won't go!!
Managed to get rid of the smell from the van by washing the curtains and scrubbing the walls, ceiling and carpets, but as soon as I put the seats back in the smell will come back.
Try using '1001 Upholstery & Carpet Shampoo'. It's cheap, easy to use and leaves a lovely refreshing smell on the fabric. That's what I used on my caravan furnishings and it's amazing how much cleaner the furnishings were too.
Somewhere on here the other day someone was on about using a fog bomb type thing to get rid of bad smells. Can't remember where about it was but it worked apparently.
There is a product called an Odour Remover Bag which is often used to remove the smell of dead rats etc so I guess it would probably also work with doggy smells. I'm not sure if they are available in garden centres but a good pest control company should be able to supply them. The advised use is one bag per 100 - 200 square feet which means you should only need one for a caravan.
There is also a product named PX17 Microcell Odour Counteractant that comes in a pot and it is supposed to be good although I have not tried it.

Thanks for all the kind replies, the fog bomb sounds promising. I've used two cans of febreeze but it makes the smell worse as it mixes with doggy smell. I also have 3 of those neutrodol gel things on the go.
I have no idea why the smell won't go after using so many different products. To be honest if it carries on it'll probably be cheaper to buy new seats as the chemicals are starting to cost lol
Found a fogger on Ebay so will order some, my last attempt!!!
Just cook up some curry & baked beans for your man when you arrive on site, washed down with a couple of Guinnesses. Within 15mins wet dog will be the last thing on your mind..........

Hahahahaha I don't have a dog so I'm guessing I notice the smell more than a dog owner would. It's not a wee smell it's a wet dog smell. It is so strong it makes you choke! How the previous owners lived in it is beyond me!
Bicarbonate of soda is a natural deodoriser and is often found as one of the base ingriedients of products like 'shake'n'vac, the problem is that by wetting the surfaces your risking washing the smell deeper into the base materials of the fillings.
If your seat base covers have the zip on fasteners it should be possible with care to remove the infills and wash them on a low tempreture with plenty of non bio and fabric conditioner. any buttons can easily be replaced with a bit of effort and a long upholstry needle, failing that, you might be better to opt for a new set of upholstry altogether.

I think you might be better replacing your upholstery, once a smell had got in your nose so to speak, even if it's gone, you phycologically sp? Might still think its there, did it smell doggy when you bought it?

The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
when i was young the dog we owned always slept in a kennel in the garden , so the smell was never an issue , most dog owners never notice the smell in there house any way , its only none dog owners that notice it , a bit like smokers and none smokers
I don't think you will ever get rid of the smell. It is like buying a car that has had either dogs or smokers. We bought an ex demo model car and somebody had been smoking in it. I took it back to the dealers and they cleaned it out again. Lasted a week before the smell came back. Couldn't stand it so got rid of car in the end.
The smells get into the whole fabric of the van not just the seats etc.
A bit off topic but we had a problem with wet dog smell in a car husband bought, even though it had been professionally cleaned. I tried everything but to no avail.
Turns out it was the ventilation/air con system. A couple of cans of air con cleaner & steriliser sprayed into the system got rid of it completely.
