We've just dealt with the same thing when we purchased the van, the carpets where the worse. We've got a pet carpet shampoo machine, but decided that this was so bad that we decided to totally emerse them in the bath in carpet cleaning fluid to clean.
Seemed to to the trick, though I fancy the carpets are slightly smaller than when they went in.
We used the machine on the upholstery though with the furniture attachment.
We cant stop our old dog getting up on the furniture in the van if we are not looking. So we cover the benches, and wash the covers regularly.
The van smells fine now.
