hi all just collected my van and have two little problems, the cascade blow air heating is only blowing cold air when in electric mode, i have turned the thermostat up but nothing changed, on the panel it has 5 setting 2 gas modes a fan mode and two electric modes and i wont work on any of the electric ones, second problem is the gas fire wont light spent ages trying to light it no gas was coming through and no spark when i tried the ignition, i have taken the ignition unit to pieces and there is no battery in it, i just hope that is all it needs a new battery but apart from that everything seems fine at the moment fingers crossed, any advice would be welcome
The back of the fire has to get warm first either by gas or electric and when it does the fan should blow out the warm air through the vents. It takes a while getting warm though and some getting used to as well but I don't think the system is very good actually. The fan actually operates on 12 volt power source so ensure you have a fully charged leisure battery. Regarding the fridge igniter, have you got a leisure battery connected up as someone told me once that you need 12 volt power to create the spark prior to lighting the fridge as well.

hi tango thanks for your reply, i left the blow air running for a while but no warm air came through at all, and its the ignition on the gas fire that has no battery, not tried the fridge coz i allways run that of my electric hook up
I had the same prob in my last van, the thermal fuse had gone causing the element to not work. I got a new kit from Gary at arc systems and all was good.
Also the gas ignitor should be peizo, well it was on mine and on my current truma fire.
On the back of the heater is there a reset switch? Check the manual as there is on mine "an old Atwood". Not an obvious looking switch either, just a black flap of plastic that you can press down and I assume the switch is just underneath. Usually trips if it gets too hot. I think it resets the electric element which may be why yours is only blowing cold air in electric mode.

I agree that Gary at 'Arc Systems' is a good source of information so if he comes on he may be able to explain in finer detail.

As Tango says, the fire has to get warm first, so if you are just switching the fan on straight away it will only blow cold air. You need let the fire get hot first for about 20 minutes and then turn the fan on. This is what we used to do.
This might be really obvious but have you got a separate fused switch for your heater? If we don't flick that on (below the thermostat and setting panel and above the fridge switch) we would only get cold air. We've only once put the fire on and used the fan and that was in December, the blown air on slow fan usually keeps us at a toasty temperature.
The first batch of mk1 Fanmaster up to mid 1995 did not have a reset switch but a thermal fuse, even so, many have already blown and been replaced with a reset switch kit.
The Fanmasters heating elements are enclosed within the unit and the fan comes on with the heating, you do not have the option to run the heat first.
So, if you have not already found it, you will find it HERE if the hinged flap as seen with 'press' on it, is not cut out so cannot move, then it's fused and needs a reset kit, I have them.
I would though first look for and make sure the mains isolation switch is on, amazing how often this gets them working!!
hi gary had a good look round and can not see any reset switch, and when you say the mains isolation switch do you mean the main unit where the MCBs are, the reset kits you how do i get one and how do i fit one
Did you look at the picture? you won't see where to press, you need to feel for it.
I mean a separate isolation switch, it's a 'fused switched spur' the same as at home, only beige instead of white and the same type switch used for your electric water heating if you have that?
The reset switch kit, (should you need it), comes with a picture that shows it fitted, but you need to get the fanmaster off the back of the fire and that depending on access is not easy?.
Easy if in the bottom of the wardrobe, not so if just a drawer above and the gas fire needs removing to get at it!
Hi gary had a look at the photo and I had a good look round and felt all over no sign of the switch, the unit is in the bottom of the wardrobe, i do have a carver water heater under the front seat, any idea where will i find the fused switch spur you mentioned, sorry about all the questions
again thanks for all your help
how much is the repair kit and how do i go about ordering one if i needed one
The cover is the same on them all so it's there! only where you press is not cut out on the original ones so it cannot move, in truth it only moves about 2mm when it is cut out so difficult to tell!
So what year is the van and or what model fire is it fitted on? is the fire front like the one in the picture?
As for where these switches are fitted?, clever ones are in plain sight and obvious like next to the control switch, daft ones like my own are hidden? I only realised I had one when I looked up while kneeling on the floor...it was hidden from sight when stood up under a shelf!!
PS, reading the rest of your first post, the Carver gas fires ignition uses the caravan battery, or it is manual piezo ignition, so no you would not find a battery to change.
Also, the carver gas valve only lets gas through in one exact spot so unless you know how to light them your going to struggle!
