Does anyone know of an easy way to clean mini Heki roof light inner section. After 2 years mine are filthy but it seems the only way to get at this is to remove the 4 screws that pass upwards through the handles ??

Hi Just came across the item you mention.I just had the hope that someone had a better idea, nothing that simple I should have known better,it seems some of the generic caravan parts widely used are designed by people who have never owned a van in their life !!!

The fact is though is that it depends how clean you want it to look afterwards. If you remove the inner part it can be soaked and thoroughly cleaned properly otherwise you would be struggling to reach the little nooks and crannies with brushes etc. and dirt would still remain. It's worth the effort of the removal of 4 simple screws in order to make a succssful job and it won't need doing again for years afterwards.

Is it a Mini-Heki, or (more likely), the standard rooflight that opens with the pair of sprung handles.
If the latter, these are easily removeable (see Tango's link) and the job can be done in about half an hour per rooflight; well worth the effort to do.
Remove the four screws that hold the sprung catches into the frame of the rooflight, then the whole assy can be removed easily from the outside for easier dismantling; you'll struggle to remove the dome while leaving the catches in-situ and in fact you'll probably be more likely to break the handle catches in the process.

Hi Paul it says its a mini in the sterling manual however it looks the same as in Tango`s pic.I will dissemble the unit as suggested,"the boss" wants a good job doing. Many thanks for everyone's input.

Yep, it's my photo in Tango's link. I can't remember who makes 'em but these are a fairly standard and common rooflight. The Mini Heki differes in as much as it hinges up on one side only and has better access for cleaning (a better rooflight to be fair).

Mini Heki example:

Have fun cleaning.
