I've had it happen once in over 50 years of caravanning and that was about 20 years ago when I used a storage site for a couple of years. I later found out that the mice had entered most of the caravans stored there. I think the mice had learnt that some people were leaving foodstuffs in their caravans and thereby providing a nice dry home with food for the mice. Never had a problem with them when keeping 'van at home though, possibly because I keep a bait station under the 'van in the hope that the mice will find the tasty morsels in there before they try to get in the caravan.

it can happen but unlikely make sure the grills over the breathing holes are in place and all should be well we've had them in our loft how do thye get up there? 4 traps and regularly in use until the poison came out gotcha
The grills over the vent holes are just made of plastic and could be easliy chewed through. I was thinking about replacing them with some of this
The other area of concern would be the drain down pipes etc that go from the water heater down though the floor. The hole is quite a bit bigger than the pipe. Could I fill these with something as they are not a vent hole ?
We had a problem with mice once but it was partly my own fault because unknown to me there were doggy chew sticks in one low cupboard and a cardboard shoe box in another under the seat with some news paper for lighting my barbecue. Of course it was a 5 star accommodation for the little bliters as they used the shoe box as a living room and the doggy chew sticks area as a dining compartment. I got rid of anything that was edible and nestible and due to our caravan being in storage I purchased a battery operated repeller as a decaying dead mouse in a trap would have probably attracted flies etc. so I decided to buy a rodent repeller as I didn't want to really to kill them really, just keep them at bay. In the last 3 years we have had no sign of any invasion of mice so this seems to have done the trick.
We keep them in the van all year round - one in each bench locker and in every lower cupboard. they do exactly what it says on the tin, and the little critters usually expire in the box itself or near to it, so there is not need to hunt for the dead 'uns. we also keep a bait station under the van as well in the winter. All food in plastic boxes, keep everything scrupulously clean. No infestation this year (fingers crossed!) but one or 2 visitors.
we've had them the last two winters once through waste pipes which they chewed to pieces and this year through a gap around some mesh in gas locker and they have had a right go at the cushions and lots of other stuff!
martin.
Yes you do need to worry. Take everything out of the van that has any connection with food or BBQ. Make sure all holes in the floor are sealed so that they can't get in. We had them in the front of our because I left the BBQ in the front locker.
Mice are opportunist , even a bit of grease on a BBQ or a broken biscuit they will find it, and if there's cosy stuff to make a bed, even more inviting.
Trouble is with rodents apert from the chewing they are incontinent , so as they walk they pee.
Touch wood not had mice yet, but I have four cats and keep the van at home, but we do have them around judging by the headless bodies my cats leave around

Adopt a rescue, rescue dogs make great pets, don't support puppy farms.
The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
Hiya, Cover any holes with zinc mesh , the smaller the better as mice have skulls that can fit through a hole the size of a pencil , make sure you close the flaps on your waste pipes and remove any food stuffs. we've had our van just short of 6 years and touch wood the only thing we've had is a harry the spider which wasn't a problem but upto now touch wood no mickey's or minnies and we keep our van in storage out in the open with a few hundred others round it . hope this helps.

I received my Battery Powered Ultra Sonic Rodent Repeller today and I am going to put it in the van asap.
For those poeple who use these and say that they do work, can I ask where you would advise to fit it ?
The instructions say the unltrasonic waves will not penetrate walls, so I was thinking of fixing it under the van. It may then keep them away from the van and stop them trying to get in. It says it will cover 2000sq ft when unobstructed.
