Hi,

We are pretty new to caravanning, so please be gentle with us!

I am a little confused re levelling.

I understand that you should not level with the corner steadies and that these are lowered once you have your caravan level front to back and side to side.

We have ordered a Kojack Lite (should arrive today).

My questions are

1. Is the Kojack Lite purely for jacking up which ever side needs levelling and then place packing under the wheels or is it left pumped up under van to maintain a level from side to side without supporting raised wheel?

2. I know you can't level with corner steadies but once level are these sufficient to support the van if a wheel is raised off the ground (without packing) or would this put strain on the chassis?

Any input gratefully received.

Hi Andy and Jane, the Kojack lite is only for Jacking to place packing under the wheels or changing the wheel.

It should never be left jacked up.

The corner steadies are only to steady the van and should never be used to support the van.

You can get devices that are specifically for levelling if that is what you are after.

Milenco do this one

These lift the caravan by the wheel rather than the chassis.

Yup, as "Clever" says, the jack is only for rasing and not for holding in place. The wheels/axle etc are the load bearing part of the 'van, the steadies are what they say - steadies only. I presume you will jack above the level you need, pack beneath the wheel and lower the jack to disengage and remove the jack, allowing for take up of the susupension. I think you'd be better keeping the jack for wheel changing and get a set of ramps or a leveller (eg Bulldog or Milenco)

Yeah, I think your right.

As just spent £70 on it I will start off with bits of wood for packing!

Thanks

You can make some simple ramps from planks of wood then pull the van onto them.

does anyone use the Milenco Aluminium Leveller mentioned by "Clever"
We are trying to find a solution for levelling and using Alko secure. It is almost impossible with a ramp even with a mover.

Sorry to hijack this question but can anyone tell me is it ok to lift up the caravan with the steadies then put a wedge leveller under the wheel then lower the steadies ?
I'm asking because we like to turn the caravan into position after unhitching then level but can't push the caravan up on to a leveller it's only a small caravan so very light weight but then me and OH are only small and light weight :(

I think that Clever has answered that question above. Mind you it is really hard to jack up the caravan on the corner steadies.
