Hi all we have just purchased are first caravan a 2009 lunar quasar 534 fixed bed . We have just took it out on are first outing to Wales . What it is , is every time we walk near the fire there is a loud squeaky noise which sounds very metallic . We did not notice when it was in the caravan showroom . We have been back to the dealer who told us it was the fins on the fire that needs adjusting . I explained it was every time you pressed down on that spot it made the noise and a friend said it could be possible delamination. It's booked to go in next week , I don't know wether to get one of these mobile caravan company's I have seen on the Internet to check it out before it goes in or just wait. Has anyone heard of this or am I being spun a load of bull. And if it is delamination what should I do. I would appreciate any advise as I have put a lot of money into this van hoping to spend many a good holiday with the wife and kids. Cheers

If the floor feels soft and spongy at that point it might be delamination. If not it could just be the way the cover is sitting on the body of the heater. Caravans are quite flexible, so it could be due to the way it was leveled or something that has moved a bit on your journey.

Doesn't sound too drastic. Dealer will fix.

Hi al+mell thanks for the reply. I am thinking of getting a mobile caravan repairer to do a check over ( I know the time should of been before I bought it ) but I don't know if they are any good or not. I bought the van from Flintshire caravans whom seem a reputable dealer . But this being are first van and sinking a lot of money into it , I don't know how honest they will be with me. I am just worried they might just botch it till the warranty runs out. Once again thanks for the reply.

I think the problem is most likely to be the case of the fire squeaking. They are quite flimsy and are held on by two bits of bent wire and possible a screw if you are lucky. Our fire was always squeaking when we walked anywhere near it - plus it fell off the wall regularly. Our service agent has now added extra screws to make the fixing a bit more secure and it doesn't squeak anywhere near as much.

I would be very surprised if it was delamination in a van of that age. If it is then it is easily fixed and I'm sure the dealer will see you right.

If you look at the front of the fire the air deflector blades at the front are contacting the heat exchanger just bend the front edge down slightly and the noise should go its quite common our 534 used to do it till I sorted it.

Hi , Our first avondale had delamination in front of the fire and the dealer sorted it out no problem but our fire regularly fell off while we were towing lol we told the dealer and he added 2 new screws and that was the end of that problem. When we bought our new van (brand new ) we had to have a new fridge, new water heater, in fill strip on side of van fell off on way home, slight leak on front window. Both me and the OH thought we were the unluckiest caravanners going till we saw on here some of the problems others had had. Touching wood we haven't had any problems in the last 3 years . everything has been put right by the dealers even though Avondale had ceased trading when we bought our Van and have been brilliant if i needed advice about anything. I wouldn't worry too much about your dealer bodging your van , It's not in his best interest to bodge jobs ... he may know you would post on here if he did. hope this helps.

This squeak near the fire was there on my 2009 quasar 546. It should just be something in the fire that's making the noise. It was on mine, dealer fixed it when mentioned to him, not made the noise again.
Hope yours is the same problem, the noise went right through you.
Nicky
