I really don't fancy the idea of having to erect another aerial when on site ..... part of the attraction of a Caravan is that it has an aerial built in - to faff about like I do with my Camper kind of defeats a reason for a van.
we are staying in S W Scotland and have discovered our tv will not pick up any signal through our roof top aerial.
I bought one to put on a pole and jockey wheel (supposed to be for a weak signal) but it doesn't pick anything up either AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!! just spent all day trying to get it to work!!! good job the wifi is free lol
hopefully you'll have better luck.

There is a big difference in reception capabilities between directional and omnidirectional antennas. If there is a signal then we have no trouble with our directional antenna. We have stayed at a site where we were told before going that there is no TV signal. They were certainly right and there is no antenna that will get reception somewhere like that.
We have the Status 330 on our current van and its very poor at picking up signals.
We were at a site recently and got no signal.we decided to buy a high gain aerial with a pole and jockey wheel bracket.Without using the booster we then picked up 88 channels.
Our new van has the larger Status 540 aerial so we will see how good that works.
I have an omni directional aerial and don't have any problems with it. In fact I get better reception with the omni directional aerial on the caravan than I get with my roof aerial on the house.
Maybe I am just lucky.
With our previous caravan which had no factory fitted aerial, we used a Maplins satellite kit. With a bit of practice, I found I could set it up in a few minutes on the jockey wheel. It also had the advantage that I could get the regional programmes from home rather than from the region I was in. I never had a problem getting a reception on the satellite, if I were to be in a position where I couldn't use the omni directional aerial, I would go for a satellite dish rather than a directional aerial.
For the first 8 years of my caravans life the status aerial on the roof was bout as much use a a chocolate fireguard. The last Easter it sprang yo life at New England Bay, where I tried it in desperation as I just old not get the directional to find any signal. Since then, I have used it everywhere we have been and it now works better than the directional one used to work. If you have one give it a tu you may be surprised, I was.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
I've got a Status 315 omnidirectional aerial on the roof of my van and have only had a decent freeview signal on 1 of the 5 times I've been out in it. I've just bought a used 530 off ebay so hopefully that will be better.
