Hi, last time we were away we met a lady who was a solo tower. Not sure how old she was but def. over 60 I'd say. She put me to shame as I've never towed our van. She seemed quite active so went out walking alot. I think on most sites people are very friendly and befriend others so there'd always be someone to have a cuppa with or chat to.

ETA - The site wardens were also very helpful and helped her pitch/set up although she seemed more than capable

My sister goes away on her own but has sited her van. She doesn't drive.
However many people go on their own. She has met a lot of friends. The female friends she has met have a motor home.

I tow but don't go on my own . I have towed on my own just once but again I had my children with me

I think I would probably have a motor home if I was alone.

Seen many usually on the rally fields, some on CS sites.  So not unusual.  Talked to one last year and the only problem was hooking up.   At the time was using the double dot system.  When car and van connected put dots on the car back windscreen with matching dots on the caravan.   Then when you need to hook up alone you reverse to the dots, spot on ever time.  The lady was looking at a motor mover which by now she probably has.   As she was a lady that wasn't going to let anything get in the way.   Good on her.

We have been pitched a couple of times next to solo lady caravanners, the one at Sandringham last year was quite frail and relied on the wardens to set up for her, and didnt bother connecting any of the caravans water system up, although we did see her a few times usinga rinsed out 4 pint milk container to fetch a drop of water from the tap.

Then there was the Lady in the little Freedom caravan, she was a solo tower, but was joined onsite by what appeared to be another female relative for a few days,  possibly sisters, they sure did look alike!

They were totally independent and managed everything by themselves, and they were by no means spring chickens either, probably in their late 60s/early seventies.

I've been a widow for over 10 years now. During that time I've towed quite a few different caravans and folding campers, plus had 3 motorhomes.

When I was first widowed the children were young, 8 & 11, so they were always with me to help - but now they are grown up I am usually on my own.

I'm definitely going back to a motorhome when I can because I can't be bothered with all the faffing about with a caravan. I don't find it difficult, just time consuming.

I don't normally go away totally on my own - I belong to a few internet groups through which I've made friends and I camp with them, so there is usually someone on hand if I were to have any problems. C & C C rallies are good too, everyone is always friendly and would help if I needed them.

Oh, nearly forgot - I always take one of my dogs with me for company. And I have TV, DVD player, books and a laptop on board so I don't get bored!

Hubby is going to let me tow it on our next trip, and I may take my mother away later in the year. Its all the hitching and connecting that baffles me at the moment, I'm sure I will pick it up tho

I'm not a widow but I go away in my little caravan on my own.
I tow myself and can pitch solo, but will never say no to any help offered when I get on site!

I like to attend CC rallies as I have met some truly lovely people who always make me feel very involved in the activities.

I actually like the solitude of being in the van on my won. I sometimes take the laptop so I can watch a DVD or do my Uni work but I relish the time to sit and read without interuptions!

I'm not a widow tho after this weekends events may well be single but do alot of trips away with just the kids and there'll definately be alot more lone trips too. I'm 28 the kids are 5 & 2. I always do the towing anyway as it's my 'van and car even when i bring my parents along tho i do the towing. And the other things dont bother me but i've always been independand so if i want it to happen it will. We've been away this weekend just me and the OH and he was out all day so it did get quite lonely during the day but i was waiting for him to come back so it would be different to knowing you was on your own i guess. But i did just plan to chill out, i took films to watch and a book to read and had a walk round the site wish i'd been in the info hut on site sooner cause i'd loved to of given the nearby horse riding a go.

I'm a lone lady tower. Mid 60's. Just me and Max my dog, but he doesn't drive. I've towed caravans & horse trailers in the past so dont find it difficult. My present van is only small so easy to manoeuvour about. The one thing I did have problems with was putting up the awning. I've got round this by making a gadget that holds the centre pole upright while I get the side ones up, it works well. I do find though that quite a few commercial sites wont allow solo's and if they do, are expensive as they charge for minimum of 2 people, that's why I joined the C/C they charge per person. We're off to Cornwall next month for 2 weeks. The weather should be better by then, shouldn't it??

I don't go solo but with our 4 children. My hubby works shift work so doesn't always get Friday or weekends off. Instead of missing out on our holidays I decided to take note of everything and do it myself. The first time I towed the van he was with me, I did everything myself and he just kept an eye on things to make sure i had done everything right. All went well and has done on the numerous occasions I have done it on my own. I felt very proud of myself when I did it Now my hubby doesn't bother saying anything but just glances over thing to make sure all is good. I have managed to put the awning up alone as well, just have to take a few deep breaths and take it slow. Never have any arguments when puttig the awning up alone

My sister is a solo tower, but is very used to it due to towing horse boxes for years. I would recommend a motor mover as it makes life so much easier. I didn't have one on my last van but is worth every penny IMO.

Two more lone lady towers here! Myself and my sister both tow our own caravans. I agree with bordercaz about the faffing about bit though, it's all easy once you get the hang of it, but it is a faff!
