They are "secure" but that only means that the people who took it would have legitimate access. That includes military and the many contractors who come and go. It wouldn't have been taken by someone "sneaking in and out". There's a lot of it about.

Hi, Looked at the link, very shocked that military instillations are a bit lax in their security, makes you wonder how secure are we all, if they can’t keep their own bases and equipment secure.
Presumably the caravan would have been on base for some time, and the owners would be known to base personnel, the bases I have been on during my working career, I have had to sign in and out and be supervised around the base, so there would be a record kept of all comings and goings, if this is the case on the base when the van was stolen from, there may be a chance of vans recovery or at least how the van was taken.
Hope they have satisfactory solution soon.
