What you need to do is adjust height/width of erected awning very slightly to prevent the 'fishponding' that has caused the collapse & allow water to run straight off when it rains. Takes a few adjustments to get right. The problem is made worse if ground in front of 'van is uneven &/or sloping.

More and more caravaner's getting into to seasonal pitches, and leaving awnings up all of the time.

I'm sure there are loads of people out there who successfully leave them up, but I've heard of large amounts of people who've had recent miss haps doing this, especially with the rain we've had.

I'm pretty sure that they are not, on the whole designed to be up for months on end.

My advice, put it up each time you go, it will last a lot longer.

However, if you are going to leave it up, get as much pitch on the roof as you can, purchase additional roof poles, and uprights, use a treatment of the roof to ensure that the roof is as water proof and repellent as possible, ensure that no top poles, including the final pole along the front of the awning are too proud and producing a water catchment area, separate awning strap ran over the awning in such a way as not to contribute to catchment of water.

Failing on any of the above can produce a collapsed awning.

Some awnings seem to be much better than others when left up, though I've looked at them and honestly cant see why.     Some do have much thicker roof material, perhaps this is it?

On the pitch we use in Cornwall the ground slopes so much the rear section of the awning collects water,we have 2 extra roof poles and now use them to stop the pooling.

It does not seem happen on level pitches.

as above more poles and make sure its very tight roof wise to start with.i always use 2 storm straps.not many use strong guy ropes one to each of the three poles at the front.these help to keep the roof tight.

Hi Thier should be a bead running along the top of your awning where the roof poles go , onto this you fit "awning quick lock pads " about £3.95 from tow-sure, we had 2 extra roof pole and 2 extra uprights in our old full awning and never had any problems with puddling. hope this helps
