hi
hope someone can help i tow my caravan with a van as i go to shows but when we go for a break i use my tribite car i find a problem as to change the number plate on the caravan to match the car dont want to mark or damage caravan and the number must be secure
thanks
The stickers that can be bought to secure your number plate to the caravan can be bought in different depths. When I changed my car I used the thicker pads which means the number plate is quite clear of the van. If you used these you could secure your second number plate to it as you could thread something behind the back.

Hired a box trailer recently ( cheaper than van hire) and it had small spring loaded clips bonded onto the back so that numberplates could be changed several times.
Looked like the ones used to secure plain household mirrors to the wall at home.
not sure where to get them but any trailer hire firm/towbar fitting centre might be able to help you
Don't want to hijack the thread, but we've just replaced our Discovery with a 2.0 Tribute, if yours is 2.0 how do you find it for towing? Worried its going to be a bit weedy. Email if you like to save hijacking the thread davidmbell at yahoo dot com
Velcro. No drilling of holes required. Just stick about 5 or 6 strips of one half of the velcro, the width of the number plate, onto the caravan and then the same on the number plate, spacing then the same. Keeps nice and secure and easy to change from one plate to the other. I stuck mine on with No-nails.
I was told double sided tape. which I have bought but havent used yet, so I cant say if its any good. Will only know when we get to the site and the plate is still there!
Used velcro on my old caravan for 20 years and with about 6 different number plates. never had a problem, just don't use too much or it is difficult to separate the velcro when changing plates. If it is good enough to hold parts on the International Space Station I reckon its good enough for my number plates.

Don't worry too much but as long as you own both vehicles with the corresponding number plates then you are still legal. We had this problem as we towed with 2 cars for a bit but it is only illegal if you are towing your van with which has a number plate on which you don't own anymore.
We were never stopped by police so not put it to test though., I use the velcro pads to swap from caravan to bike trailer now.
