we are looking to get one today. as we want to go away next week. we want a legal number plate for the back of the caravan. where is best and not 2 expensive to get one done and posted out asap. please any advice as we are new to all this.
Oooo, I feel the numberplate issue coming on here.
Basically for a 100% legal plate, they need to see your V5, I personally don't want to send this through the post, so to do it legit I would go to a motor factors.
However you can buy "legal" plates on ebay, that have the correct markings etc on them, but are technically incorrect as they have not seen your V5 (and may be bogus maker markings)
However, I have these ebay plates on my van and trailer, and cannot distinguish between these and 100% legit plates.
Even if the plate(s) have legal font/spacing, and include suppliers name and postcode, if they are supplied through the post without sight of the V5, they can only be offered as "show plates".
The eBay listing says:
"All plates unless specifically requested (documentation required) are sold as "show use" and/or "off road use"".
They'll be fine though.
Personally, I'd dig the V5 out and go to Halfords.
If your local one is good they can advise/help with drilling and screw mounting, or sticking on - if the panel is flat. If it's curved, the sticky pads can struggle.

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it
Our local garage that does our car servicing did one for us and it only cost a few pounds, but they still needed tosee all the right paperwork. Anyone who sells cars should be set up to do it so don't make a special trip to Halfords if they are a long way away.
i got one from a local store as handing the v5 online got me worried it would get lost. only cost £9 in the end so not 2 exspensive thank you every one x
