We collect our new (2nd hand) van very soon, and the dealer includes a 12 month warranty. They are offering a further 12 months for £130, or 24 months for £200.

The policy is the MB&G Gold insurance, and covers Body leaks, Braking systems, chassis, suspension, electrics, toilet, cooker fridge, heating and water systems. It doesn't cover wear & tear, soft furnishings etc.

The condition is that the van is serviced annually by a competent service agent (not necessarily the supplying dealer). The van is 5 years old.

I must admit I am tempted for the piece of mind. has anyone a view on this? Is it good value for money? Has anyone experienced claiming from MB&G?

Thanks

I must admit, I am tempted to buy it for piece of mind

When we bought our 2002 van we were given a 6 month warranty but extended it to 12 months. We put it in for a service before the warranty ran out but didn't need any work done. I think our policy was with the same company but we didn't have to make a claim.

One medium sized spot of damp/decay could cost you far more than that to have professionally repaired, let alone any heating or other problems that might arise in a couple of year time.

Thanks for the feedback

The policy booklet specifically mentions Water Ingress as being covered until the van is 10 years old - at the moment it is 5, so that would be OK.

I guess it's a good idea, it's just with all the extra costs we are rachking up on top of the purchase price: tow bar, insurance, security devices, all the accessories etc, it seems a constant battering on the wallet.

And when you think you  finally have everything you need you will find that a visit to the camping shop results in another "must have"!!

We took the same policy out on our 2008 Provence this year from Oxford caravans and I think it is a good price for 3 yrs cover. I have been very unhappy with the aftersales from this dealer (long story and I intend to post seperatly to warn others of this) so won't be returning to them for any work to be done but the good thing about this policy is you aren't tied to a dealer. We have found a good mobile NCC approved workshop engineer who is happy to do any warranty work and intend to use them if its needed. Having had damp twice on our last bailey I think £200 for 36 months is good value for money.
