Do you have a tether for the dog? If so, you can get him/her out and tethered before you start on levelling the caravan. I have previously put my dog on her lead and looped the handle onto the car towball, so that she can watch what I'm doing, whilst keeping her out of the way.
I havent watched the above link, I imagine its a bit upsetting, but I cant for the life of
me understand how someone can leave their dog tied to their car and not know, My dog gets in before the family lol if anyone would get left its one of them. They would never own a dog again if I had my way (dont get me started!)

When I think of the times that I've nearly pulled away from my unhitched van with the electrics or safety chain still connected it makes me think that I could be the sort of fool that would forget about the dog sleeping quietly in the shade behind the car.

As Ive said my dog is in the car first waiting for us to get a move on, he was when we had a tent he was there for an hour on the back seat fast asleep, it was different when we arrived, he still was in the car but up and crying to get going, but bless him he waited for us to put up the tent in the baking heat, we had all the door and windows open to keep him cool, whilst we were sweating buckets, that was when we decided that was the last year of our tent and I have no regrets.

God that's horrible. Poor dog. And contents noted well.
If I've attached my dog to the towball, it's after disconnecting the van and putting the car in it's final parking place. She stays inside the car until its parked and ignition off. After I've sorted out the caravan, she is transferred either to the inside of the van, or her lead is looped over the jockey wheel.
I usually go somewhere pretty level on sites. I don't lift the van with my corner steadies as a rule!
