Hi

I have just spent my first weekend away in my new caravan  but now I have a host of questions. It's an elddis Wisp 450ct, bought off my brother who doesn't have a clue!

Under the front seat is a black box battery charger with a mains plug on. Do I need to have this plugged in all the time to charge the battery or does the mains site EHU charge the battery?

The caravan came with an active awning but my brother stored it in his stables and the mice have destroyed it. The panels were in the van so survived, would it be cheaper to replace the destroyed roof piece or just buy a new awning? I am a single caravanner (well 2 small kids, but they aren't much help) Am I going to be able to get a full awning up single handed or would I be better with one of those half awnings? Any awning recommendations?

Levelling across the axle, the van is in site storage at the minute and they put it on site for me, when I go this week I won't have the car with the tow bar on. How am I going to level it across the axle? What is it that I need to get to go under the wheel to help level it?

Thanks for any help.

Its sounds as if caravan does not have built in charger & a separate charger has been left in it. If this is the case then yes you would need to connect to battery & charge it when it goes down. Taps & lights may well work without battery connected if on ehu though, it depends on the electrics & difficult to help without seeing it.

As for levelling across axle, you might be lucky & have a level site, otherwise you will need to get one wheel onto levelling block either a bought one or one made from cut pieces of thick timber like old roof joists. Its handy to have a few cut bits of wood for corner steadies as well. If you have no car then you will just have to find a couple of people to push it onto block or take a jack & jack it up to put block under.

If the site owner is moving it for you perhaps you could explain the situation & ask them to level it for you? Take a small spirit level to check or there might be a small 2 way spirit level already screwed onto surface by the door.

The awning sounds like it has had it, I would get a new one or do without. A lightweight porch awning would be easier for you to put up & much cheaper.
