I do similarly, but put on grass face down, and roll both sides in to middle, then roll front & rear to middle, that way you can brush off any grit etc as you are doing it. Then put a bungee round the package, and put into bag front end 1st, (so you always know which end is which). We used to use this method with cam nets in the forces to save them getting caught on everything, and it works well. Then use the ladder, and dump package as close to middle as you can, remove bungee, and unroll front & rear, then sides. easy peasy .. :)
