Well we made it back safe on saturday after a full week in the van down in Devon, and from the moment we set off the whole experience was certainly an eye opener to other peoples stupidity and direspect!

On the way down and back from Devon me and my partner were absolutely gobsmacked at which can only be described as the idiotic driving of people towing caravans, do people not know the speed limit when towing?  They were overtaking us, hgv lorries, snaking like mad, how they never lost control is beyond us, one after the other.

Whilst at the site I was amazed at the fact kids and parents were playing ball games, where the ball hit someone elses caravan (owners not in van at time) and the parents didnt even correct their kids and say oh no dont hit it so hard etc, they just laughed.

And the elsan points, dirty people had emptied their tanks, but not bothered washing it down even though a tap and hose was there for this purpose.

Rant over!  Am I just being naive, we've only ever been on small sites, is this the norm on big sites.

I don't think it's the 'norm' but seems to be far more common during the busy bank holiday periods.

We just stay at home during bank holidays, and use the money to go at other times.

Peoples behaviour on site never fails to amaze me. Saw one guy rinsing out his toilet holding tank at the freash water taps leaving toilet paper over the area. Just got a load of verbal and threats when I told him about it.Other people letting their dogs lick water from the same taps.....GGRRRRRRR

We are also fed up with rowdy kids on sites and agree their parents did  seem to think it was funny to let balls and so on hit caravans , we  were on a big site last year and one morning a guy was having a soapy wash under the water tap we all use for our containers /barrels his soapy hand were all over the tap yuk , we are also sick and tired as what can only be descibed as big heads in chelsea tractors on the M Ways towing at speeds well over the limit and snaking all over the place is it any wonder some overturn ? .

Anyhow because of all this we are this week taking a seasonal pitch on a peacefull site in Lancashire , we won't miss the unruly kids nor the idiots who speed whilst towing.

Its so disrespectful, they dont or I hope they dont do things like this at home so why on sites.

We have two kids, so no adult sites for us!

The loud banging music really annoys me too, just turn it down!!

I'm afraid an increasing number do do things like that at home. We had the neighbours from hell across the road from us until they were evicted by their HA some time ago. They would play cricket on their driveway and smash the ball against ours and our neighbours' house fronts, cars and gardens. Police were regular visitors but it was only when we started sending repair bills to their landlord that anything was done about it.

As for camping, we now restrict our outings to midweek and avoid school and bank holidays. We are retired so are able to go more or less when we please, otherwise I think we would have given up camping by now.

Sadly, even restricting yourself to adults-only sites is no guarantee of a peaceful break every time.

I'm glad we only go on club meets where there are clear signs about not taking your toilet to the drinking water tap, what speed limit is allowed onsite and where the children know exactly where they can play without annoying anyone. Its great how quiet it is at the proper time and in the morning too. But everyone still had fun.

It shows a complete lack of consideration for others and
hygiene, which is getting commonplace in todays society(dont get me started on spitting!!!.)some people do not care about anyone else whether its driving or filth.

We tend to go for smaller/quieter sites now our children have grown up and don't some with us.

Whitsun is the only Bank Holiday we do as I have to take school hols and won't miss the chance of a week away. Otherwise we avoid them as the world and his wife seem to take to the roads and sites.

i have to agree with some of the posts when i see new 4x4 and big fancy new vans i know the problems ahead i dont like to tar everyone with the same brush but it normally spells trouble kids who just do what they want when they want, balls hitting van, swearing and if you say anything you just get a mouth full of abuse last site we went on there was a old couple in the van close by they were being driven to distraction by some kids from a near by group when the guy asked for them not to kick the ball near his van and watch the language the farther of one went and threatened him so been a nice chap i went and removed the guy by the throat and told him if the kids kicked the ball again i would use him as a football not something i normally do but when you see a guy of say 45 threaten a guy of 70 seemed the right thing to do there was 3 dads and i was on my own not one had the guts to say a word back
i then went to see the elderly couple and apologized for my actions but they said they were glad someone dare speak up for right and wrong
too many kids and adults of today have no respect for others and im afraid i for one have had enough
i have 2 teenage boys both are well mannered because thats how we brought them up and im sure there are plenty more on here who are or have brought there kids up the same
the doo gooders have had there day time to go back to discipline in schools thats my thought anyway

MMmmmm, would agree, it's not just a kids thing, it is both kids and adults. If the adults don't put the effort into bringing their children up well, then you end up with a family of idiots.

I've also got two well behaved children, and wouldn't dream of letting them do any of the above, but there again wouldn't dream of doing it myself.

There does seem to be a fair increase of families like this caravaning, but I suspect it's more a reflection on our society generally than caravaner's generally. There is I am afraid little grace left these days.

Happily we've just come back from a holiday at Bude Meadows in Cornwall, and the site was full of well behave kids. The kids seemed pretty free range on the site, but I didn't see a ball, or hear any of any problems in the week we were there. Both of my kids had a great time playing with the others, and all were well spoken and behaved.

So probably an element of luck as well.

As for dog owners, again good and bad. Strangely enough though badly behaved dogs, also seem to be owned by badly behaved adults. Seems to be a trend.
