I haven't used the one you have mentioned, but I have got THIS ONE
The probes are on a long flexible cable so it makes it much easier to get into tight corners.
We had one of those. It over read like mad and caused us an embarrassing incident due to that fact. A Protimeter may cost more, but it is what the professional repairers use.
If you have, or are buying an expensive caravan you need to know its true state regarding damp levels. A cheap meter will mislead you one way or the other. Hire a Protimeter or buy one, or hire mobile technician who will have one.
I agree with what you say although we did manage to test ours alongside an engineer with a Protimeter and it gave virtually the same readings so we are happy with it, but I would still probably have a Protimeter if I could afford it!
My theory was that it was better to have the Rapitest than no meter at all.
My Draper meter has been brilliant. Only every indicating damp when it's there and never when it's not. As 'Clever' says, mine has also thrown up the same results as professional meters have, tested on 3 separate occasions.
I think the people slating the cheap damp meters may be jumping to the conclusion that all cheap meters are rubbish. Mine certainly works, has done for 5 years and helped me find 3 dry vans and a sh*t load of damp ones!
I'm sure the the expensive ones are preferable but if you can't afford them, a budget type may well do the job.

My cheap damp meter was so efficient it would even show damp that wasn't there.
My problem with cheap damp meters is that they are often badly calibrated. You may be lucky and get one that works properly but you might not. How will you know either way if you haven't got a good one to compare it with? As to the difference in cost, it is peanuts compared to the cost of major damp repairs to a caravan.
