I am new to caraving this year, been of 6 times now and first time i did it it was a night mare, what amazed me was the first time i set up eveything which took 4 hours how many experiecend caravaners just stood their and watched me struggle and then gave me advice afterwards this annoyed me as i would offer help to any one, you will alos find your own way of doing things, this is what i do

1 - Unhitch

2 - put a spirit level at the door and use jockey wheel to get it level.

3 - put legs down

4 - connect electrics and then press the switch so evrything is running of the mains.

5  -put the awning up

6- fill up the aqua roll, plug the pump in and open all the taps and get rid of the air bubbles.

7 - switch on the gas

8- put flooring down in the awning.

9- then organis the rest of you stuff and toilet

its not hard its common sense, when we first did it we went to a small caravan site for 2 nights and we siad its not an holidat its just to learn and we did that, and now i have it down to an hour.

when you read some posts on here some people go ove the top even when loading the caravan weighing everything and i have found the best thing to do is use common sense all the time

When I first started out, I asked someone on site to help and explained that I was new and unsure what to do. Us caravan need are a cheery lot so help was very forthcoming. A tip, get a spirit level from B&Q and put it in the doorway when levelling up (putting steadies down). Make sure the bubble stays in the centre when levelling from front to back then turn the level 90 degrees and do it again. A good tip that I got.

Another thing, Caravan Club safety rules state that the laden weight of the caravan should be no more than 85% of the kerb weight of the car. Nose weight (downward force on the tow ball) should be 7% of the laden weight of the van. Example (my stats):

BMW X5: 2.2 tonnes
Swift Challenger 620 laden: 1.75 tonnes
Weight % ratio: 1750 divide by 2200 x 100 = 79.5 (% of laden caravan weight to car kerb weight). Well below safety margin.

I have towed at 99% before now but I've been doing it for years and your new so, with that in mind, I hope your tow car is heavy enough.

One good tip I got from this site was to leave switching on your gas for as long as possible to allow for an oily substance to settle. Since doing this we have not had any reoccurence of the oiled up regulator syndrome (hope not tempting fate !!!)

when you collect it they should give you a idea on how to set up. i bought mine off a friend who was kind enough to go through on how to set it up and tho he never showed me how to do the awning as my driveway was not wide enough lol he explained to me how it goes and with the poles marked with coloured tape ( so we knew which pole went with which ) we soon had it up. a good idea is to write down a check list of things to do in order and tick them off when done that way you won't forget anything. hope this helps and hope you enjoy your new caravan
