hi we just wired the black plug on our caravan that fits into the towbar electrics there was 7 wires and all seem fine everythin workin now just when you jiggle the plug the right side drivers side light goes out. This is the reason we changed it so could it be the towbar wire that has something wrong with it or does the contact on the towbar need cleaning and spraying with electrical contact spray???? Also we took the grey plug apart as we decided to change that too We have put the wires back in the sequence we took them out but there are only 5 wires to our grey plug is this normal ??? There were no numbers on the grey plug we bought so just wrote down how we took them out can anyone help again please
It does sound primarily that there could be either a loose connection in the car mounted socket or even the possibility of a fractured wire within your cable (although the latter is less likely). I'd dismantle and investigate the 12N socket on the car first.
As for the 12S, the wiring is probably correct.
See here and click on the respective 12N and 12S drawings for wiring information.
Edit: Whoops, posted with Rob, sorry for duplicate info.
As with the diagram above, the pins with a cross are male and sometimes need to be slightly opened with a screwdriver down the cuts to open out and give a tighter fit. Also a clean up of both halves with emery cloth, male and female pins. Pin No 5 is for the right hand lights and is a male so I'd have a look at that.
