What's the chance of getting a better deal at the NEC caravan show rather with your local dealer rather than visiting them where you are a regular customer?

We are thinking about trading in our caravan but would prefer to use our local dealer as it is opposite our storage site so easier for servicing/snagging .

None, but that's just my view. It's the hidden cost that can be overlooked when folk think that they are getting a bargain.

Buy at the NEC and you may end up getting your van from somewhere a long way from home. Warranty work may have to be done back at that dealership and the cost of going back there is a cost you will have to build in to the cost of the van. They will tell you that any local dealership dealing with that brand of van will undertake servicing so that can be done locally. That is not always the case so you may have to travel many miles back to the seller to get that undertaken and that is more cost.

Then, if there is anything wrong to which the Sale of Goods Act is your remedy that's another journey back to the dealer.

.....Not to mention the spend it where you earn it concept. Support your local dealer or one day it may not be there.

I have bought a new van from the NEC from a dealer about 60 miles away. I regretted it straight away, other dealers will not do warranty work and if you have any problems with the van, as I did, all dealings tend to be done on the phone or by e-mail.

When I finally received my refund I researched local dealers on the internet and bought locally. The dealer is convenient and has sorted out the minor problems without complaint. I still shopped around to make sure I had been given a good offer, but saving a few pounds on the initial purchase is not always worth it in the long term.

Having viewed loads of vans at the NEC over last couple of years we decided most dealers were doing "show specials" on their current years stock. These were significant savings over prices on their "new" models for the next season.
