Hi there

we have bought a 1990 Bessacarr Cameo GLX 600 - its a lovely big caravan, in ok condition - it has suffered from damp in the past and just looks a bit drab inside and id like to try and revamp it!! I'm on a fairly tight budget so it will have to be done over time!

seats - id like to replace the foam/cushions = they are still in shape and pretty clean, reupholstering looks pretty expensive - are there any cheaper alternatives? we have tried using throws over them but it is a bit of a pain when they keep falling off all the time

curtains - does anybody know/can recommend where to get new curtains from?

paint - can any type of paint be used to paint the inside walls or does it need to be a specific type? a family member suggested wallpapering but that looks like it could be quite fiddly!!

any help and advice is greatly appreciated!! thank you :O)

I redecorated my little caravan both inside and out!
I bought some new fire retardent foam and made some basic envelope style covers which can be removed for washing.
I also made new curtains and bought some flower shaped cushions.

I painted the walls, ceiling and cupboard surrounds with emulsion from B&Q and covered the cupboard fronts with Fablon.

I bought a carpet runner and 2 rugs for the floor.
I got an old flowery silk scarf from a charity shop for 99p which makes a great fly screen over the door!

I would say I spent less than £200 in total and it took me about 2-3 months to get everything done (I did it over the winter months)

HEJC72 your caravan is beautiful! - I love the colours on the paint job on the outside. Did you do your car to match the caravan or the caravan to match the car???

Thank you Maggie.
My husband had already painted the car like that for me, so when I got the caravan, he very kindly painted the outside of the van to match.

This is just fab!! Do you think you'll keep her a long time, or get the refurbishing 'bug' and keep changing?

I thought about this myself as I also use throws. When I can get some more the same, I'm going to fit them at the corners, like you see on fitted sheets, with a couple of straps at the back maybe - or extra fitted triangles which slip over the back of the cushions to keep them in place, if you see what I mean. I will lose the throws (which come in handy as extra blankets), but I think it will be worth it for not having to faff with them every morning when I put the beds away.

I did think about completely recovering the cushions and backs, but thought I would try this idea first! I'm just waiting for the Aldi throws/fleece blankets to come back in the shop (in the right colour!!), as I need an extra one in order to have enough material to do this.

I suppose you could just buy more throws the same and make fitted covers - then they are removable and washable. That's the reason why I don't really want to recover/upholster in the normal way!
