Hi folks, hoping to pick your brains regarding stops on the A69.
We are going to River Breamish CC at the end of the month, and are going from Lancashire via the M6 & A69
We have never travelled the A69 before and was wondering if there are many suitable stops for the caravan or would we be better stopping off before Carlisle on the M6
Is the A69 a good fast road with dual carriageways ?
There are no proper services on the A69. If you are just stopping with the caravan in tow there is a nice pub 'Lane end Inn' a couple of miles after Warwick Bridge with a long layby in front of it. You don't have to use the pub to park there. Large white building on the right (heading towards Newcastle). There are a lot of parking laybys and one or two garages you could stop at before you get to Hexham. When you get to Hexham and it becomes duel carriageway there are no stopping places before the A1 at Newcastle. There is a large layby on the A1 just before the Cramlington A19 turn off if you need a break there.

The A69 can be a busy road with very few stopping places for a caravan, best stop at the services at Carlisle. Their are only a couple of short stretches of dual carriage way (overtaking lane) until you are nearer Hexham. Its a beautiful road and the scenery is gorgeous.
We are staying at Haltwhistle CC club site in August as i'm off to complete the Help for Heroes Hadrians Wall challenge.
Enjoy your break and the journey!

I was on this road in May. There are places you can pull over, no bother. But for services, we used the Carlisle Motorway ones. But we did have a flask or two and sarnies . . . we have had cause to use the caravan toilet on one occasion during travelling this year . . ! Handy!
------------- Peripheral people don`t have as much excitement but they sure live longer
There is a little chef at Bardon Mill which has space for a caravan.
Or if you travel on, just off the Riding Mill roundabout which you:ll go over is Brocksbushes Farm shop. Its a big car park and you could get the van in, but you need to follow the high vehicle sign when leaving, rather than take the car exit which goes under a bridge.

We use the A69 frequently. There are plenty of lay-bys, some better than others, so unless you are looking for a restaurant/cafe, it is no problem stopping.
After all, you have your bathroom and kitchen with you! We always use our own van for lunch/toilet stops.
