We are due to go away a week on tuesday for 2 weeks, my husband had a chest infection a month ago and was given antibiotics for a fortnight, he went back to the doctors for a check up and there was still a rattle on his chest so the doctor sent him for an exray  and blood tests, they came back clear. Good news,  The rattle is still on my husbands chest so the doctor wants my husband to see a specialist in about 2 weeks time. my husband told me yesterday that when he lies on his left side in bed he gets breathless. my son of 32 years of age  is allso due to have a major operation, he recieved a letter yesterday to say that the operation is due to take place 3 days before i arrive back home from holidays.  my husband says hed love a holiday. I feel very apprehensive at this moment and cant seem to get excited about going away.

With everything that is going on i think the time away might just be what you need. I am sure your son will have other members of family to be there and that when you get back you could visit him and if anything happens somebody would call to let you know.Your husband says he would love to go away too

I would think a rest is probably just what you need.

Go, have a break.

Anyone with breathing probs should not really lie down as such, if I get called to anyone who has difficulty in breathing, the first thing I do is sit them up, If the x ray is clear, then there is no fluid/infection on the lungs, however lying propped up in bed will help a great deal in the breathlessness, and allow you to go away with little worry

Can you just go for a week. Or 10 days due to your sons opperation What does he think.
Or if it's not too far you can be able to go home if needed.
You will worry but it is nice to go away and as others have said it will do you good.

A break away may well be the solution you need but a folding back rest may be ideal to prop up on the bed at night and rest two pillows against it. It may prove a little strange at first but at least he won't be lying down and should be able to get a good nights rest. My wife has a permanent lung dysfunction and from time to time when she feels any chest problems occurring I use this method till she feels better and able return to lying down again. It's not the perfect solution but at least it enables to achieve some rest during the night if the problem is severe. If you are in a caravan then at least he will be warm and dry which is a bonus but this is one typical reason why we can't camp under canvas due to the damp conditions that can affect my wife's health. We both always look forward to going in the caravan even just for weekends so I think that if you have the right equipment for his problem you should be fine and feel much better after a well earned break. I hope it works for you anyway. A typical back rest is shown in the link below.

I agree with Nora how about still going but for a shorter amount of time and maybe a bit closer to home (if you were planning on a long trip). That way you still get a break (which will no doubt do you both the world of good) but are close enough to home if your husband begins to feel unwell or your son needs you.

Personally I would still go but would cut the holiday short to be home for sons operation. On the other hand you haven't said how far away your going would you be able to go home for the day of the surgery and then back to your holiday.
I have to agree it sounds as though the break would do you good.

Sue.

Go away and enjoy yourself. Life it too short, enjoy it while you can.

If you are anxious about your DS operation, then just cut your holiday short. With regards your husband. All could be fine and well by then, but if not, sitting at home isn't going to make a blind bit of difference!

If you get in quick it can often be possible to swap appointments around a bit in a short timescale. Its not always cast in stone.

I would go! I have not long had a huge operation ( liver resection) and the only thing that has kept me going is the thought of us buying a caravan and getting away!
