Now at the start of school holidays many of you will be looking forward to bringing your van down to Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. Far be it that I'm putting a damper on your hols, but could you be extra vigilant when on the beach in West Dorset and East Devon. We have had some dreadful weather here over the last 2 months, many rivers have burst their banks and several areas have had severe flooding, roads have collapsed as well as some railway lines. There was a severe landslide 9 miles away from Bridport, where 2 people died. There's only one place that all this water is going and that is down to the sea.

Today, tragedy struck again, and there were 2 landslides on the NT beach about 400 yards from Freshwater Holiday Park at Burton Bradstock. A young woman is missing in one of the slides under what is said to be 40 tones of mud and rock. The whole beach is closed for the foreseeable future.

Notices all year round warn tourists that the cliffs are not safe, but at the moment they are just collapsing without any provocation at all.

Children love fossil hunting and it's all too easy to lose sight of them as they wander about with their fossil hammers. Please be extra vigilant about them going too near to the cliffs for fossils - the best ones are found at the waters edge and not in the cliffs anyhow.

We had walk down to our beach at Charmouth today, and the Beach wardens were moving people away from the cliffs. However, Wardens don't operate on all beaches, so everyone must look to their own safety.

We stayed at Lyme Regis a couple of years ago, my son is loves fossils and dinosaurs and things like that, we spent hours along with lots of other people looking for fossils on the beach, having seen the pictures and hearing the dreadful news about the poor young lady it sends shivers down my spine of what could have happened to us, please be careful if visiting the area and thanks for making other members aware of the dangers Dorset Belle.
